HI all,
I would like to know what members regard as the ultimate rifle for CLA pistol cartridge. I am currently using a Rossi 92 in 357/38 with a 26" octagonal barrel, Lyman front sight and a Lyman tang sight. I shoot reasonably well with this but I always wonder if there is something out there that will give me improved performance.
cheers

Dave, I have shot a lot of different rifles for PC. I had 2 .357's ; a Marlin and a Rossi. I had a 32-20 Marlin and 2 25-20 Marlins. My go to guns now are a Winchester 9422 in .22 mag and a 104 year old '92 Winchester in 25-20. I like the .22 mag, as I don't have to reload for it, and it is extreamely accurate. However, you will lose a ram now and then. My big match gun will definately be the '92. For an old gun with a rough bore it is scarey accurate. Also both of these calibers in my experience shoot better in windy conditions than the fatter calibers. Al

357 mag is more gun than you need to knock down the 100 meter rams. Al's advice is spot on. The only lever in 32-20 currently manufactured that I know of is the Uberti 1873. Another good cartridge is the 32 H&R. Marlin used to make one. Advantage is, it's a straight walled cartridge, so carbide dies without lubing, when reloading.

My wife shoots a marlin 1894M in 22 magnum. She will lose a ram if the wind is against her, but the gun is very accurate and NO RELOADING! I have shot a 357 Marlin Cowboy, but I believe my Marlin in 25-20 is much more accurate.

Thanks for the replies, I am now on the lookout for a 25.20 to try but they are pretty rare in Tassie (the land down under the land down under). I am sure that I will acquire one in time
Unfortunately if and when I get a 25.20 the rossi will be used by the cheese and kisses.

I wouldn't trade a .357 for a .25=20 if the only objective was the perception that the .25-20 was a far superior cartridge for pccla. I don't think it is, not to mention it's a lot easier finding components for a .357. But, if the objective was to play with a neat cartridge that's a whole other story.

Hi all,
I have decided to keep the 357 and have purchased a 32.20 Winchester 92 to try out ( have a fiddle with). The 32.20 seems to be fairly popular down here in Tassie as several forum members shoot various designs

, they also appear to carry handbags to the range with them

I am hoping this is not a sign of things to come.
