2010
LOUISIANA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
SMALLBORE RIFLE SILHOUETTE
MATCH REPORT
April 24, 2010

After two solid weeks of great weather we came very close to getting hammered by a string of violent thunder storms that lucky for us passed just north of South Louisiana. Unfortunately those storms wreaked havoc in neighboring Mississippi and my thoughts and prayers go out to those that lost loved ones in the devastating tornados that pummeled that state Saturday. The conditions however were far from ideal. The only thing that could be said for the gusting wind was that it was mostly straight in our faces as we shot at the targets. I don’t know what the wind speed actually was, but I would venture a guess that during the gusts we had winds in excess of 25 mph. The scores reflected these challenging conditions and the wind did not discriminate against anyone in particular. There were some strings where it blew for the whole 2 ½ minutes straight. Some light rain fell early, but by the end of the hunter match in the afternoon, the sky was clearing and the sun was beaming down. The wind however never let up. Both matches were 60 shot matches.

Jerry Tureau was the grand aggregate champion for the second year in a row winning the Dan Healey Memorial Trophy for its debut match. Joe DuBoulay and Steve Pearce fought the conditions, but Jerry’s experience and skill proved to be more than we could overcome. We had three students from the LSU ROTC program come and shoot with us in the standard match. Cliff Landry came over from Houston to represent the state of Texas and Dale Perini made the trip to represent New Mexico. Thanks to you folks for helping make our match a success. The prize awards were as follows:

Standard Rifle: State Champion Match Winner – Jerry Tureau, 1st Master – Cliff Landry, 1st AAA – Steve Pearce, 2nd AAA – Joe DuBoulay, 3rd AAA – Daniel Archibald, 1st AA – Dale Perini, 2nd AA – Doug Singer, 3rd AA – Mike Bourgeois, High Junior – Josh Knight and High Senior – Jerry Tureau

Hunter Rifle: State Champion Match Winner – Jerry Tureau, 1st Master – Joe DuBoulay, 1st AAA – Steve Pearce, 2nd AAA – Daniel Archibald, 3rd AAA – Woody Walk, 1st AA – Doug Singer, 2nd AA – Ed Beeson

I would like to personally thank Eric Harper the chief match statistician and organizer for the match for all his hard work and excellent calling of the match, Jerry Tureau for being the match director, cooking a great Jambalaya with the help of Mike Bourgeois and building and supplying the Dan Healy memorial trophy. Special thanks also go to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Department for the use of the fine range facilities that make this all possible. Eric started a rumor that next year we are going to make every effort to hold a two day match here the last weekend of April. Thanks to everyone that came to shoot, your support was greatly appreciated and I hope you had a good time. – Joe DuBoulay

It was a pleasure to have Cliff and Dale travel as far as they did to shoot with us. We are working on having a 2 day match next year. If approved it will be April 30-May 1, 2011. Hopefully, more of y'all will be able to attend.

Jerry has recovered very well from his shellfish incident. The previous weekend he fired a 39x40(1 pig) in Std. and a 37x40(2 turkeys, 1 ram) in hunter in near perfect conditions. He should be a contender in Winny.

I'll be seeing y'all in Winny. May all your shots be on target until then, and once there, may they all be fliers. I'm going to need all the help I can get so as not to finish last b-(
