I am trying to get a more relaxed head position with my SA 54, went from Warnes to High Burris Signitures but they do not seem stable. Zero changed twice during one practice session, pretty much every time I put the rifle down it would shift.

I would like a set of extra high rings bases, would prefer aluminum to save weight. Correspondance with Marv (metalhead) has been unsuccessful. Are there alternatives? Is there any one who will make such a thing?

What I use is a standard BKL rings on a BKL riser block. Gives a bit more height than BKL high rings.

I understand that BKL is out of business too. Is this true? If not, are those the "257s" you are talking about?

If your Burris rings are moving then something is wrong. I would suspect that that the screws are not torqued properly. Is the tube loose in the rings, or are you saying that the bases are moving on the attachment point of the receiver? Burris Signature rings hold up to centerfire recoil. There should be no reason that they are not holding true on a rimfire.

I've used the Burris Signature rings on a 6.5lb 270 Winchester with scorching hot loads with no change in zero over the course of several sessions. I agree that there's something wrong with the setup if they're moving on you.

I had trouble with my Burris signature dovetail rings where the locking nut would bind on the clamp and not fully tighten against the dovetail. Drove me nuts until I figured it out.

I have used the Signitures in Redfield and Weaver type on many firearms without incident, but I am trying the "22 and Air Rifle" version for the grooved reciever. They are torgued as tight as I can turn the screw, and every time I lay the rifle down the scope gets shifted. I have used this scope on this rifle in other mounts for years without issue, so to me that means the rings are the culprit.

To be honest, they are very high and I would think that means they would be more susceptible to leverage and pressure to the side. They also are obviously generic in terms of action curvature, so they do not sit well on top of the action. Lots of space there. I purchased them to experiment with head position. I would prefer a stronger base ring combination, but so far that has not allowed enough leeway for scope position. Scopes seem to always be set as far back in the rings as possible, with the turret housing butting up agains the rear ring.

So... that is why I am looking for a different, hopefully more durable system. Wish Marv still made rings.
