So, what color are your targets painted? We had dirt and weed berms, started with white, switched to orange. The folks who got our target stands when our dedicated range closed have a similar background and use white. Two ranges have sand berms and paint the animals black.

Ours are white, but have seen both the black and orange at other ranges also. As long as they are all the same I guess that's all that matters, so all the shooters are seeing the same taget. The reason for the different colors is just as you stated the different berms and what shows up best.

I've only seen white at the matches that I've shot at up here in WA. Color hasn't been much of an issue in smallbore, but in the cowboy matches where we have to use iron sights I've had the white targets be very hard to see against some very light-colored dirt/sand berms. I would have much preferred to use orange there.

Target colors (black or white) should be determined by the background you have. Some ranges I have shot at had real light colored sand behind the targets and the white was very hard to see. Hardest match I shot for target color was an Easter shoot where they were painted many different colors.

kev, it was an Easter shoot. Them damn targets were hard but it was the same for all.

Pink and Purple...They should all be Pink or Purple, so as not to confuse them for the real animal.

The targets at our range are painted black.

At our range half are black, half are white.

I find the black easier to see, both through the scope & bare eyed.

Pat, it will not bother me...I'll be shooting HP elsewhere. And yes I have shot pink targets, there was a time that was the color that was the cheapest paint at a Brevard county range.

I shot at one club up in Maine and we HAD to use pink but just for the rams. It was the only color that would show up. the burms would change color all day long. I do believe the rule book says any contrasting color.

We paint the CPT white since we use dark steel back stops. The 100 yd berm is grey quarry fines and if wet in the morning appears dark so white rams stand out but if dry, in the afternoon sun, the white rams tend to disappear, so black is better. We run 2 matches and have changed colors at the break, not an ideal situation. We now paint the rams bright yellow which seems to work best
