Not so new as before

So, I am thinking about upgrading my 10/22 for steel and since I want to test our eTrigger I am looking at the Fajen Legacy stocks. They seem to have the space between the grip and our trigger that I want.
Are these stocks legal for MS?
I would almost prefer a conventional stock, what are the recomendations?

Are you looking to get the adjustable version? That could be the deal breaker on whether it is legal for standard class.

Before you spend a lot of money on your 10/22...... Silhouette is a game best shot with a bolt action rifle. Not that you can't try but why?

Well, what bolt gun would you recommend where I could get better results for the $250 ($150 stock, $100 barrel) that I would put into my Ruger?

So, if it is not allowed, how come they call it 'silhouette'? This is why I am asking the questions, so I don't end up with the wrong stuff. Seems like the manufacturers are misleading...
It was sad at a high power match where some newbee showed up with a swat team urban commando AR and was told it wasn't legal for service rifle...

The swat AR is not legal in an NRA across the course match for good reason. Your shooting 600 yards and those guns are almost useless at 100 yards. A match AR is capable of 600 yards.
The 10/22 is a good gun. but every gun has its place on the range. I to shoot a 10/22 but never in a state or regional match only pratice matches. Bolt guns rule these games. There are many guns... but this is my gun. this one is for shooting and this one is for fun! :D ;) Time to build up your gun locker my friend. $-)

Ray, do a search for "starter gun", "first gun",CZ 452, new to the sport, etc and see what you come up with. Most everybody on this forum is going to recommend a CZ 452 for a starter gun. Its going to cost a little more than your upgrades to your ruger, but you WILL go to a bolt gun eventually if you enjoy the sport. I myself started with a tricked out 10/22 with a Kid trigger, Kid barrel and so on and went to a Kimber HS and moved on to custom built silhouette rifles. The Fajen stock is fine as long as you "lock" the comb and the shoulder pad. This is to say you visually make it look like you cannot adjust either during a match. At local matches many of the shooters may not raise a stink about the stock but if you travel and go to the nationals somebody may protest and you will not be allowed to shoot. Also if you buy a new "bull" barrel for your 10/22 you are not allowed to use it the hunter class, only in the standard class. to comply to hunter rules the barrel must have a taper from the reciever to the muzzel. Alot of people only shoot one rifle and its a hunter class rifle so it can be used in the standard class as well. The reason they would not the newbie shoot his AR at a highpower match is that the .223 punches holes right through those steel targets and those targets are quite spendy to replace. Usually the smallest caliber bullet used is a .243 and that is not very often as they tend not to take down the rams at 500meters. Most highpower shooters will use a 6.5mm bullet of some form or another ex; remington .260, 6.5x55 swedish, or the new 6.5x47 lapua. Some guys still shoot the .308 and 7-08 as well. Hope you got some usefull info from this. :D

Fajen makes the silhouette stock, AND they make another option of that same stock that has an adjustable cheek rest. It is the adjustable aspect of that stock that would make it illegal. The standard non-adjustable stock is perfectly legal. \m/

If you can CONSISTENTLY shoot groups of around 1" at 100 yards off a bench then the rest is up to you regardless of the rifle you decide to use. It won't matte what rifle you are using if you yourself are swaying around like a weeble-wobble.

Matt,
Your reply is most helpful. So, regarding standard vs: hunter class, it looks like most people will shoot both at a tournament, no? :?:
I am used to high power rifle, that is not silhouette, but bullseye high power rifle where you shoot one gun, four positions and it takes all day. Also, bullseye pistol takes all day too.
So, am I wrong to assume that you will enter both standard class and hunter class at a match? :?:
Is this a re-entrant thing where you can run a class multiple times? :?:

Ray, Yes there are two rifles, you can shoot the hunter rifle in the standard class, if you like. Those of us that travel a lot (and others too) choose to shoot one rifle for both, for various reasons. Some being, less to carry, no worrying about which rifle to sight in when, no chages in position due to stock configuration, working with the same trigger etc. ....
You are classified for each rifle, with hunter class scores being slightly lower than standard, thus it is common to see someone that is an AA in standard and AAA in hunter, or similar.

As for your choice in rifle, yes a bolt gun runs in the silhouette, but I have seen a 10/22 win the nationals, granted there was nothing stock 10/22 about it, and for the money, you may as well have started with a good bolt gun. Being a CZ fan, I would agree that they are a great starter rifle, and will take you well into the upper level classes. When you get to the upper end of AAA and master, the fine tuning of things becomes extremely important and typically requires higher end equipment, if winning is important to you. Some of us reach a point that the coaching of the younger ones, and enjoying the camaraderie and of course harrassing SC posters are the best part of silhouette.
Shoot what you are comfortable with, as you improve you will decide what you like. Use one or two guns, doesn't matter, unless you have a wife that limits the number of guns allowed in the house, otherwise use it as an excuse to buy more toys!!! Keeping the first ones as loaners to get more shooters addicted to this fine sport.

Mary,
I make barrels for 41's and have at lease one of each style for myself.
