? 1712 McMillan stock ?

Curious if there would be any interest here in a new take-off stock at $550 shipped.
I might consider buying a complete rifle from Champchoice for the barreled action(no actions in stocks-only complete rifles) if I had a buyer for the stock.

Even if you could get $550 for the stock you're losing $70 on that kind of double transaction. Neal Stepp has the 1712 barreled actions in stock for $1107, that's only $57 difference and he'll ship right away, I just talked to him. Or just wail till the end of March when CC gets them back in from Ulm.

Thank you for the response.
I should have been clearer in my post.The reason for buying an existing complete gun is that is probably built upon a wing safety action.New actions coming in will probably have the side safety.I had sent Neil an email with a couple of questions, but he didn't answer the one concerning the type of safety on actions that he might currently have.
The reason I was a wing safety action is that I have a nice takeoff stock of the wing safety type that I want to marry it to.

how much are the McMillan 1712 stocks worth. I have one that is almost new. and one that has been leaded to add weight so that with scope and all it will weight under the 8.5lbs. for competition. I would like to trade one or both for Pharr stocks the RT style. both are in excellent shape.

I think the CC 1712 complete rifles have McMillan stocks that are glass bedded. McMillan is REAL proud of their glass bedding jobs and want like an extra $270 for a total of $780. I've never owned a glass bedded rifle and have no idea if two different barreled actions would fit well enough the same to take full advantage of the expensive bedding job. Anyone care to comment, or has the free-floating versus bedded debate been beat to death?

I have seen enough variation in actions to prefer bedding a particular action to a particular stock, and that the bedding be done after any tuning adjustments to the action. At the very least a stock should be pillar bedded and closely fit to the action - I have one particular rifle that shoots well enough this way that I'm afraid to do glass bedding. Barrels are always free floated except for the first two inches in front of the action.

CC says they are pillar bedded.Besides the stock,part of the price dif between the barreled action and complete gun is the guard and screws.
