I have a 1422 anny that needs some work should i spend my money fixing it up -new barrel and stock .
I'm new to silhouettes I score low 20's in RF and mid teens in HP every bit counts thanks for any help..

On the other hand a CZ 452 or even an older Remignton 541 gets my vote over the 504 anyday.

Whoa boy! They sometimes shoot very well out of the box, but that isn't the way to bet so be very careful buying one. I have one for sale in a 504-T stock with a Lilja barrel that shoots sub-moa and makes weight for Hunter class, but I do not recommend tuning one yourself because there are so many idiosyncrasies. This one took four months of tinkering, and it wasn't my first rodeo. If anyone from Steel Chickens buys this one, the standard Marketplace fee (whatever we agreed that would be?) will be donated to the website. They already have a very good trigger that is easily turned down to 2lbs (or less) with no creep or over-travel.

A CZ 452 is a very good rifle out of the box, cursed with an awful trigger. If you're comfortable doing the work yourself, get a Timney trigger, make room in the stock for it, and pillar bed it. If you're uncomfortable doing the work, see if Evelio will.

I'll let someone else weigh in on the wisdom of tuning your 1416.

Finally, consider a Weatherby XXII. Basically the Anschutz 64 action in a radically upgraded stock.

Ouch! Mary! One mention of a 504 and it's back to Blue Balls? And here I thought you were starting to like me. Did I mention the 547 Custom? 504 in polished blue with a Shilen barrel, nicer stock and .5 MOA guarantee.

The 452 has the virtue of being current production, so I'd lean that way. Unless you're interested in a 541T that just came back from Butch Hongisto. I'm not anxious to sell it, but the gun locker is too crowded so something has to go, and it isn't going to be the Anschutz or the Tikka, and the other 504 isn't salable.

Talk to one of the usual suspects - er - gun smiths that trolls through here once in awhile. Anschutz barrels are pretty stout, so assuming it isn't abused it should be fine. The stock is another issue.

As a former position/prone shooter, I have seen many Annie barrel take a lot of (ab)use..to the tune of 20-25K rounds a season and function well for many years. If you feel the barrel is too worn out (I have seen them wear out) you may want to check the crown...this typically is the bigger problem in a rifle that has travelled to many matches. But either way new barrel/stock on the 54 action is still a great rifle.

BB..me like someone that is pro-govt. health care???? Come on man, I have family in the medical profession for four generations in NZ where there is a major attempt to break away from gov run health care, for reasons too numerous to mention on this web site. Not to mention my working for the state gov, in data collection and seeing incredible amounts of 'misappropriations' swept aside for 'economical reasons'.

Definitely have it re-crowned! I had in mind that this was a 64 action rifle, but since it is a 54 ( ) it is clearly worth a new barrel & stock. That actually makes a lot more sense than throwing money at anything else.

BB...I knew you would see the dark side eventually...yes it is worth restocking and rebarreling if truly needed.

Nothing dark about a 54 action Anschutz, Mary! There are tools and then there are toys - it's fun to play with 504's because screwing one up is a minor loss, but a 54 action Anschutz is more serious.
