Winter practice session.

I took a few rifles out to CRC today for some HP practice. I got there at 7:30am and it was a mite cold at 12F. But, it was real calm. It was supposed to hit 40F today but never got over 35F east of Denver. The whole time I was there it never got windy at all. I brought out five 7-08's, a .308 and a .30-06. I fired a total of 250 rds. of 7-08 rotating in 5 shot intervals thru the five guns. That was pretty much non stop shooting till I left at 3:30pm. Man...that felt good!!

Never touched the .30 cal.guns. Ever have one of those days when you just cant miss? I was hitting 75-80% all day. Must have been due to all the extra clothing reducing body movement.I maintained a rock steady hold all day. The chicken and pig swingers took a beating for sure. Did not shoot too much at the turkey and ram gongs. Hopefully, the weather will be decent for our first HP match of the new year this Sunday. Most of the remaining HP silhouette shooters are in hibernation 'till spring. Most likely we will just have two or three of the diehards for a practice session again. No problem.. another practice session is just fine with me.I cant get enough of this HP stuff.

That's pretty hard core Bob. Inspiring. But not enough to get me in the cold mud to push my truck out!

Bear, you gotta go out when it is colder. The mud just turns to concrete!

That's the problem here! It gets cold enough to make it uncomfortable, but not cold enough to really freeze things solid. So we get cold muck with a thin crust of snow or ice. Completely worthless!

259,

McAlice,
You wearing extra clothes? Come on man you are tougher than that!!LOL Must have been fun to shoot in no wind.
BB....a little mud is supposed to make your skin softer, right?

Trust me, a little Plavix will too... Not to mention making cold weather downright painful.

I know nothing of Plavix...cold weather is great for the skin, even turns the oranges pretty orange...speaking of that Tangelos are coming in, the entire crop of citrus is light this year due to little rain in May and all the other problems.

No I'm not..I am a wimp.I had to "man up" to stay outside in those temps all day. Warm boots, thermal skivvies, two sweatshirts. If it was the least bit windy I would not have got out of the truck even after driving that far. Yep....near dead calm. Like shooting indoors, inside a giant walk in freezer!

McAlice, If I know you, you were not paying attention to the temp....you were too busy sniffing the gun powder. And after you've been in CO how long, you haven't learned the warmth of fine NZ wool?

The three DIEHARDS met up at CRC today for another practice session. I got there at 8am and set up the range. Bob and Dave showed up at 9 .
It stayed cold at 28 and overcast for most of the morning. It finally reached 40 by 2pm.It also stayed near dead calm all day. We were dressed warm and each had one of the king size Jon-e hand warmers to keep our trigger control body parts warm. We took turns mowing down the animals one bank at a time. One guy shot while the other two spotted thru their rifle scopes. What a blast. We reset the range three times. I brought out a pair of 7-08's and the .308 Classic and put 50 rds. thru each.
I fired the last of my ammo at 2:30 , packed up my stuff and pointed the F150 west. What a great day we had. The next match or practice is just too far away. I added 12 photos to the link above.
