Has anybody tried a Mueller scope--any model--for SB Silhouette? I've read a lot of good things about their optics, but heard almost nothing about their adjustment repeatability. Haven't actually seen one, either. I know the reticles aren't ideal for the purpose, but still...a lot of scope for the money?

They have fairly good, not great, glass. The adjustments are fine for a hunting or plinking gun that you set and forget. They aren't reliable enough for an often-used silhouette rifle when compared to a Weaver V or T-series or Leupold or Sightron target models. If it's what you have and you want to shoot some silhouette matches, then have at it. If you're buying a scope specifically for all the knob-turning we do in silhouette, I'd advise going for one of the others mentioned above.

It is hard to explain how much wear this game puts on gear, and scope internals get some of the worst. Leupold scopes have great glass and great internals, while Weaver and Sightron have merely good glass but still great internals, so those are the three brands you will see more at matches. It is a lot more than follow the leader here - we already killed everything else so what you really see are survivors.

Well, that supports my suspicions, and I have no doubt y'all are right. But I was really hoping to hear from someone who'd actually tried one.

I saw one at a match a few months ago. The next time I saw the guy, the same gun had a Weaver T24 on it. I'll ask him if I see him again, but those are the only two times that I've seen him and I had to miss the match yesterday to watch my daughter's Christmas program. It will be at least a month before I have the chance to see him again.

For a while I had a Mueller Eradicator on my Sako Finnfire. My previous scope was a 12X Redfield Metallic Silhouette scope so with 24X on the Mueller it was easier to pick a spot on the ram for me. Glass was not as clear as the Redfield when set to 12X for a comparison. I shot the scope in 5 matches (Not alot of experence) and was able to make it into A class. The down side I found was th 1/8" click adjustment and the small size of the dot .On black silhouettes the illuminated dot really jumped out at you.
The adjustments were a little "mushy" feeling and not confidence inspiring although it seemed to track OK. It was suggested that removing the turrets and wiping out some of the grease aided in a more positive feel.
I finally replaced the scope with a T24 Weaver with 1/4" adjustments. Tracking is more firm and positive and the glass is better. The Mueller is mounted on a reworked
10/22 Ruger and will be a loaner.
The new 32X Mueller seems to be well thought of on the Rimfire Central Board so someone over there may have more info for you

The Mueller may be a fine scope, but I would always question if a miss was me or the scope. It saves time when I always know who to blame!

I put a 8x32 Mueller on a 597 that I'm using this winter in silhouette and it seems to be working fine. Here's a little history on the scope, I ordered it from SWFA and it's listed as having a dot reticle. I couldn't see one so sent it back to Mueller in Michigan and a very good customer service rep hand picked one for me.
Then when I mounted it the side focus woudn't move so I called the guy back at we determined that scope ring was to tight and forcing the tube out of round. I was able to loosen the ring enough to make the focus work but would never be tight enough to hold for a centerfire rifle with recoil.
My opinion is that Muellers are good enough for local winter matches that your shooting for fun or for a loaner rifle for first time shooters. The high power variable aspect of it appeals to new shooters but this is not a scope for serious competition. It's been used by myself and several others in matches for the last 6 months with no issues as far as repeatability but I won't be surprised if it quits working far short of what one would expect of say a leupold, the good news is their customer service is very good. I also would add that the 8x32 with a 30mm tube is an absolutely huge scope. It's an ok scope for the money and I really like the side focus.

I have the 3x9 version of it on a RWS 54 which is thee scope killer of all time. Even Leupold scopes will not hold a zero on this rifle but these inexpensive scopes will and they repeat very good as well.
