as am a 1st year newbie to the sport of silhoutte (shooting offhand and all), i couldn't wait until squirrel season to how i fared. the opener was last week, and i did well when it came to offhand shots on tree rats.

the competitions have definately improved my off hand hunting, and don't have to depend on a nearby tree to rest on to take a shot. the sport has definately improved my over all shooting, standing shooting especially.

just thought i'd share.

Just wait until you've been in the sport another year or two. You'll have confidence to take (and make) shots you never would have before. You'll also get quite a chuckle when people who don't practice shooting offhand brag about shooting running animals "at least 300 yards away!"

i'd never take a shot at a running anything (well maybe a rabiit or grouse with a shotgun), just a little quark of mine, but i can see my freezer getting a little more cramped this small game season. have been successful taking larger game at 300+ however in the prone position. but i do have confidence in taking a still shot, if need be, out to 109 yards much more now than before.

another nice thing is that you get used to making frequent elevation / wind corrections, and realized that fringe benefit the other day goin for crows.

Personally, I think it is the intimidation factor. As soon as those chickens see my rifle raised, they run around so fast, it is hard to keep them in the scope.
