It was my 1st time making it out to this match but since the wife is away I got to go out and shoot matches on Sat. and Sun.

Having never been to the Sunday match or range I was unaware of the way prizes were awarded but thought it was kind of unique and funny.

All you get for winning the match is bragging rights. But they give out prizes for each animal and the high count combined from both rifles. I had the high count for everything but Pigs ( the bacon was elusive for me for some reason on Sunday ). Anyway not having a clue what the prizes were I picked the Turkey prize and the rest were given out to the next in line to spread the awards around.

Prizes were

C- A dozen eggs.
P- A pack of pork chops.
T- A 3 pack of turkey drumsticks.
R- A couple of lamb steaks.

To bad I couldn't get the prize for all 3 I won I could have eaten all this week off them

Has anyone else ever seen prizes like this before? I think it was cool and definetely different. They said they change the prizes up but for Rams are having a hard time coming up with variety that fits the animal any ideas besides mutton?

Was a great weekend of shooting and posted my new personal best with a 31/40 in Hunter and actually managed to win all 4 matches for the sweep

Loving my new to me Pharr 1712 I picked up from Bob259 Been a great month of shooting since I got it and the food had been flowing. Last month was Tenderloin steaks grilled at the range in MS, Sunday was Red Beans & Rice with Sausage and Ham and next weekend Tureau is fixing some Jambalaya. Life is good!

Dee, Glad to see it's treating you well... it is a great shooter and it looks like it went to a great home. Those prizes are unique and haven't seen that before, but I'm sure the wife would like me coming home with food instead of just stories of a great time and something else Kitty said for me to get ;)

I like it kinda like a turkey shoot....and with the way things are today kinda practicle a trophy you can eat. But it is in keeping with metalic silhouette history since they would cook the animals that were shot.

I would go to more matches if I could eat the trophies.

Me?? Talk someone into getting an new gun toy???? Never happens

Having to eat oysters if I lost would be a powerful motivator for me to practice more. I've had a few in my life. They taste even worse than they smell. They make nice bait for something more edible, though.

That is the difference between the EA/CPA answers and the engineers opinions. At least he is not an attorney and talking us into this stuff.

We used to shoot Hunter Pistol at a club in Eustis Florida in the early to mid eighties. They were known to give out NRA points, money, steaks, fish, oranges or whatever. Being FROM Innocent’s part of the country, when bait shrimp were 3 dozen for a buck and they would average about18-25/pound, it was not out of the question if fishing wasn’t too good or even if it was and the damn sand flies wore you down, to call it quits and go home and eat the bait. Little tougher when pan fishing with worms even though they are low fat and mainly protein. Back then, if we were near a good oyster bed, screw the fishing and get out the beer and Tabasco. Sauce ‘em up; put ‘em in; hit ‘em once or twice and let ‘em go. Don’t care what grandma said, you don’t chew oysters 12 times before you swallow ‘em.

I'm with you gator...love the eats at the matches...oysters...shrimp boils yummy.....guess that why I missed my Jax match this year....Who here remenbers that steak place up the road from the coon hunters club in crestline where we shot the nationals one year !!! was that a steak place or what.

Dee, there must have been an alignment in the force this weekend, I turned in two 31/40"s on sunday as well. I got boxes of ammo though which arn't nearly as tasty.

I hear ya, it is the same way down here where the fresh bait shrimp off the boats are nicer than most people get to eat around the country. Many folks would be hard pressed to put the shrimp we use for bait on a hook to begin with. As for the oysters I am not a fan of them myself even though my family used to be oystermen and we still have several oyster lease beds that have been in my family over 100 years now. My dad used to go out with a stool and sit down on the outgoing tide and his bowl of sauce made up and just eat them right out the water. Nothing fresher than that and as he said they taste even better still kicking. I am shunned in my family for not liking them but it is one of the few seafoods I don't like. This time of the year you can get the big 10/15 count shrimp off the boats for a couple bucks a pound. Need to make a trip to the coast and get 50 lbs to put away.
