Went out and shot my first honest to steel chickens match today.... oh my gawd was it ever fun. I've a CZ 452 Varmint with a vintage Weaver T-10 mounted with Burris Signature Z rings. I'd pretty much worked out the scope settings for 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards (didn't realize that those were not the ranges that would be used). Used mostly Federal Auto-Match but also tried a few of the Federal 510's. I do a goodly bit of offhand shooting but it is with a 75 caliber flintlock (Brown Bess)... an entirely different ballgame. Atleast I didn't totally embarrass myself... scored a whopping 7 out of 40. Think maybe it is time for some serious practice before next month's match.

Federal Automatch are good stuff, just a little fast and loud. Federal 510 did poorly in my testing, but as in all things YMMV.

As your illness progresses, you'll want a Timney trigger for your Varmint. You're likely to finish that project shortly before caving in to the Anschutz 1712 craving. Next you'll want a new scope - the Leupold VXIII 6.5-18 is a good stop but the older Weaver T-24 with 1/4 MOA clicks is very popular.

Evildog...welcome and your score was great. THe addicition continues. My first scope was a Weaver T10 and I still have it around for a starter scope for tempting potential new addicts. The older scopes are excellent but a tad heavy when it gets to mounting them on some of the wood stock rifles due to their steel tube.
