The receiver group from a CZ-452? I'm asking because I've recently acquired a Lilja fluted LV taper. I love a project...

Now that is an interesting project! I don't know the weight, but it's certain to be pretty light compared to an Anschutz 54 action so there's plenty of room in the weight budget. Put a Timney trigger on it and you've got a nice rifle.

Or you could put that barrel on a 504.

The barrel is at 28" and is supposed to come in around 26" after locating the "sweet spot" at the muzzle. It is a full 1.2 inches at the breech (straight taper to .700), so I will have to turn off roughly 0.1 inch to match the CZs receiver. If I don't mind shortening the barrel to around 22-23" overall, I should be able to get 1 1/2 lbs off the barrel, but I would have flutes terminating at the receiver face. Shouldn't be a factor, just different appearance. That rifle already has the Timney and my first attempt at having a "low toe-high cheekpiece" stock built to fit me.

Now where's that calculator....

There's probably enough room in the weight budget for 24" or more if that trims enough off the chamber end to look good on the receiver, but if you're set up to machine the barrel yourself then you know better than I do!

Yeah, but I'm waffling right now because of the weight. I don't think it'll make Hunter weight without major surgery. This is a barrel designed for 10.5 class BR. Maybe I need to sell it to a stool shooter and buy a #4 Shilen (at 1 1/2 lbs less) to make weight ....OR.... Just build a dedicated heavy gun.
Decisions, decisions....

Here is a thought. Build the rifle as a stndard rifle. Then do another build for hunter rifle. Problem solved.

Oh man - you have been infected!

Here's where I am so far. Still some work to do on the stock to accomodate the much larger barrel. Probably a new stock out of Silver Maple (to keep the weight down) in the near future.

Awesome!!! When you get done, you should let me know a rough estimate of the cost. I'm thinking about doing something like this.

$200 for a used Silhouette (with a busted stock)
$265 for a new Fluted Lilja #7 LV (don't know what they cost direct from Lilja, or where ever they're available)
$85 (?-don't remember exactly) for the Timney

My gunsmith hasn't handed me his bill yet. I suppose that is variable, dependent on the rates of the person who does the work.

Could I have been more "cost efficient" in my quest for another accurate rifle? Probably
