A gunsmithing question

I have a question for the gunsmiths on this forum.
Sitting in my gun safe is a super accurate and under utilized Remington model 540XR. This rifle has already been modifed for the silhouette game in that the barrel has been shortened to 19 1/2 inches and the barreled action now resides in a hunter style stock.
The problem is the target style barrel. I would like to have the barrel slightly tapered so the gun can be used in both Target and Hunter class. What do you gunsmiths say on this plan?
Thanks.
