The NS 522 even though it looks like a 54 action, it will not drop in on a pre-inletted Anchutz stocks. The distance between the action screws are different, and so is the trigger guard and Mag. guide.
The NS can be inletted in any flat top stocks.

Handsome: Let's throw out an unconvential approach and see what the experts say. With the rule, you can't buy animals...but you can sure try.

Some folks simply can't lay out the cash for a 54 action. For those on a budget, CZs, NS522, 541s or whatever you own is where most folks start. There is no doubt that a Pharr stock sure makes a gun a pleasure to hold.

Why not start with a Pharr stock and put the CZ/NS522/starter gun in the stock with the long term strategy of upgrading the stock to ultimately hold a 54 action...or whatever gives more accuracy than the entry level actions?

Bottom metal. As long as the outside dimension is the same....change from say NS522 bottom metal to 54 bottom metal. The thing is you can't change is the bolt notch. The bedding can be machined out and redone. But, as I write this, all that expense....might as well just take the plunge and do it right the first time.

Anyone tried anything this crazy?

Jud,
Just an observation...all this talk about a 54 action, I have made it to master in both classes, with 1) an original used 52B sporter and iron sights through the AA class, then to a Weaver T 10 for two years....$75 for the rifle (1974 price) and $150 for the scope, 2) On to a remake of the 52($450 for the rifle and $650 for the scope) with a Premier 18X40 boost, with a Karl Keynon 2.4# trigger...had to argue with the old man to get him to take it to that heavy of a weight.

While I now have a 54 action on a Pharr build, I still shoot the 52 better and have shot 3 matches of 38's with it. Back to that wonderful LOP and NPA, it fits better.
