• Test Rifle

As an incurable tinkerer, I have broken myself of messing with the competition rifle put together by a pro (hush, Evelio...) but really need something to experiment with. Any others other, and what do you use?

Get a 10 meter Target rifle, you can tinker to your hearts content. You can try all sorts of stuff, like hold, LOP, stance, balance of gun and shooter, follow through, trigger position, control and weight, butt position, you can use open sights and scope, all this in the comfort of your own basement/garage/shed/backyard.

That's expensive tinkering. Some of these experiments are potentially destructive.

Ok, After many hr's of deep thought..
I will stick with the 10 meter target air rifle for constructive tinkering, a Savage 340 30/30 for load tinkering, a Ak47 and a Bazooka for destructive tinkering. Now that lot should give all the tinkering you could ever need...

Limey! You've got a mean streak I had only suspected before! Hmmm... Although, even I might have trouble breaking an AK47...

It occurred to me over dinner that a CZ Varmint might be just the thing. Not too expensive, parts readily available, and lots of potential.

My vote goes to the Ruger 10/22. If your tinkering dinks something up, parts are readily available and cheap. And if your artistic ability falls short, the gun was ugly to begin with.

Try casting your bullets for HP. There's no end to the tinkering.

If you cast... watch your blood lead levels. Just cleaning the range, reloading and shooting has severl of the guys in the area blood lead levels in the danger area.

(Note: If you do test high the state has to follow up on how your level got so high. Tell the state you were casting sinkers for fishing and not bullets or shooting unless you want your range shut down.. this the new way to get rid of shooters)
