Just a reminder that the Seattle Rifle and Pistol Association will be having our monthly smallbore and smallbore hunter matches on December 21. Registration starts at 9:00 and sight-in starts at 9:30. The match will commence at 10:00. We will have a 40-shot smallbore match followed by a short break and then the 40-shot smallbore hunter match. The 9:30 to 10:00 sight-in period should be used to sight in rifles for both classes.

My apologies for being absent the last match or two. I had a disagreement with my motorcycle about the best direction to go, and it decided that I should discuss my opinion with the pavement. Bones have healed and I can use my right hand again, so I'll be there ready to shoot.

I'm famous (only in my own mind). Count me in.

Ow! Must be the moss growing down the center of each lane. Gotta be careful of that stuff. Glad your together again and that I only have to dodge deer an cows.

Wasn't the moss. Was a spot of oil or antifreeze or something. There was just enough of it for the rear to slide out to the right (leaning me and the bike left) and then get traction again. Highsided me (witness said 10 feet or so up) and bike (enough to land on upper right side). Insurance for the bike and I wear full gear so only broke one little bone in my right hand and had some ligament/tendon damage (no tears, though!) in my left wrist. The rest was just a couple bruises. No road rash whatsoever. On the scale of bike wrecks, it was pretty minimal thanks to all the gear. Now it's time to get back to shooting. I haven't pulled the trigger on a live round in a long time now. Tried a couple dry fire shots and my trigger control is horrible, as is the grip in my right hand. Got a long way to go to get back to decent scores.

Oh.. and I know you were probably joking about the moss not being from the land of the weeks-long rain, but we actually do have moss patches on the roads by end of April or so some years. Really.

Its true. Instead of putting salt on the roads to get rid of the ice and snow the DOT puts moss killer in their trucks

Quick heads up that most of you that attend the matches probably already know. Due to the weather forecast, there's a pretty good chance we'll be looking at 30 degrees and several inches of snow on the ground Saturday and Sunday mornings. I'll try to talk to the two guys that run the matches to confirm whether or not the matches will be held, but I can say for sure that I won't be shooting the match if it's 20 degrees. I might sit by the heater and heckle the ones shooting, though.

Last year I believe the December match was below 20. Some good scores were shot.

I live about two miles from the range and have over 6" of snow on the ground right now. It's still snowing, too. As I said, I'll sit by the heater and.. encourage.. you guys while you shoot.

Per Bruce's posting, the Sunday match is canceled and with good reason. This 8 to 10" of snow we have on the ground is supposedly going to get at least 8 more stacked on top of it, and wind gusts will hit 90mph putting the snow there. It's hitting tomorrow night, and I plan to hunker down to weather it. I wouldn't mind having a little more firewood than I have if (ok, when) we lose power and the wood heater's the only heat we have. The only time I plan to leave the house this weekend is to go fight everyone else for some groceries and maybe some fuel in the morning.

Paatchy fog in the morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies, hi temp of 80 with light NE winds at 3 to 5mph.
