Does anyone know if a Pharr Split Finger stock can be inletted for a 10/22 and still look half way decent?

I am getting rid of all my McMillan stuff (guns and stocks) and want to replace the stock I have on it now.

Or, can anyone recommend a good synthetic offhand stock for a 10/22?

Hmm, interesting idea. I wonder if some creative photoshopping/photochopping would reveal the answer. The biggest issue I can envision is the width of the 10/22 action in the area of the mag well. The mag well may be too wide for the Pharr stock.

I have a Boyd's laminated thumbhole stock that works pretty well for offhand shooting, but it's not synthetic.

Well, I'm sure that this post as usual will be a thread killer, but believe it or not, I do have some experience that applies to this topic.

Several years ago, like seven, I did a job just like this. Although it was a not 10-22 into a Pharr hunter rifle style stock, it was an AMT 10-22 clone into a Pharr standard rifle stock.

The AMT semi auto has the same action dimensions as the oringinal 10-22.

This rifle also came to me with a KIDD trigger group, not that this made any difference in the relationship between the top of the action and the trigger guard.

The problem with this conversion is that the barreled action has to sit so far below the the top of the original stock so the trigger guard sits flush with the bottom of the stock. The Pharr standard rifle / hunter rifle stocks will experience the same problem here.

In other words, I had to cut 5/8's of an inch of the top of the stock so the trigger guard was flush on the bottom of the stock and that the top of the now modified stock was level with the centerline of the barrel.

It just ruined the way the gun looked. Plus the extra work making the stock look right again after cutting off the top half of the stock. Kind of a shame when the prices of Mark's stocks are now up around 375.00 plus shipping, then tack on the inletting and recoil pad instalation..

Needless to say, I try to discourage these type of conversions because they just look so damn ugly. But your milage may vary.

I think I have the only 10/22 in a Pharr stock. It was originally made for Bill Robinson and I bought it from him in a moment of weakness. It was for sale at the southern nationals but it didn't sell so I am shooting it. I am not a big Ruger fan even though I have owned many and in fact this is not my first 10/22. I think it looks and shoots great! It has a briley barrel and a Kidd trigger too. I just prefer single shot or repeating bolt action rifles for smallbore. But again, It looks really nice!

I do love my 1712, but I've also been tempted lately to shoot my 10/22. Sometimes I feel like I can "get in a groove" with a semi-auto and really knock 'em down (for me).

I think I just made up my mind to shoot my 1712 in hunter class, and 10/22 in standard at the next match.
