Folks:

At today's SMALLBORE match at the La Gloria Silhouette club at the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club, I managed (in a 40 shot match) to hit three chickens, without knocking them over!!!!!

Two of them were turned, and the third was visibly rocked, acording to my spotter. So, that is three out of 10 chickens "rung" at a Smallbore match.

Of course, they were very poor hits, really just grazes, but normally they would have gone down. I hope that I now have that out of my system!!

Can anybody match my record of 3 out of 10 rung in smallbore?

Nope.. only done two once. Spun one almost 360 degrees, barely turned another. Uhh.. congrats?

At least you are hitting some chickens. Far batter than me this year.

I have scared a few chickens and caused them to move a bit, but never 3 in one string.

Uh oh.. sounds like Deadeyeky "fixed" them so they wouldn't fall for you while he was trying to make master class in hunter rifle.

I just need to hit them a little harder, that's all.

Use a 200 grain hollow point, really long but hits hard

well i figured i might as well put the broken ones back together while adding more surface area in the back, so technically i made them larger, lol, maybe when i fix the HP chickens ill add another 1/2 thick plate in the back........

Nope, but I had the pleasure of knocking pig no.4 up into the bullet trap...only to have it rebound off the roof and land on its feet perfectly positioned where pig no.3 was. I took the point.

Yep, couple of years ago I hit three chickens in a row that tipped onto their beaks. No in bird hunting you've got doubles and scotch doubles but what do you call three in a row on their beaks and toes. Crackers told me they don't count since they didn't fall. I think he fears the chicken count myself.

If they didn't fall off the pad they were sitting on, then they don't count. Maybe you should have hit the chicken instead of the pad and they'd fall.

(Note: I got my last master score in smallbore standard at the Conard Cup this year hitting the pad but I got lucky and the chicken barely fell off. I even got it on video. )

We have a fellow up here we call 'skip shot' because of all the animals he gets by hitting the pad and in some cases using the rocks on the ground in front as a launching pad

Tipping them on the beaks is a skill shot. Anyone can knock em down.
