Thanks for the post.......I really liked Lawton's input on the concentric circle training. I'm definately going to try that, even if its for home dry fire practice, since i'm one of those whose only practice is for score.

about the article, the upcomming CA state smallbore match will be my real firstbig shoot, im in AAA and hoping not to get into master class before june 21st, i got 2 legs into so far, im not quite sure how im gonna deal with the match...... wish me luck

A few free words of advice from an experienced coach/spotter that currently has a young shooter nipping at the heels of the best of the best in master class.

1. Don't worry about your score...shoot 40 1 shot matches (in a 40 round match, of course).

2. Never, ever hold back for fear of "breaking out" into a higher class. I always tell the young shooters I work with "We go hard or we go home"....We train to win...training yourself to "hold back" for fear of "breaking out" is training to lose....That's a bad habit you may never break once you set into it.

3. Have fun...You will win some, you will lose some...You don't have to, and in fact should never like losing, but you can always have fun and take something positive from the match.

4. Watch the top shooters very carefully. Everything they do is for a reason. None of them got to where they are by luck or accident.

5. As for Troy's 10-22 in the pic, well, it's not your standard Wally World issue...Read the specs...very special gun.

Have fun and good luck in your first big shoot, and be sure to post back here and let us know how it went.

and Teresa May tought me about the 40 1 shot matches, and i try to take each match one animal at a time.....

Great article! I`m gonna start using some of the practice advice as soon as possible and it looks like I need to do some dry fire practice as well.

We shoot SBR Silhouette in Chattanooga noon this Sunday, 29 June at the Chattanooga Rifle Club in Harrison. Also a State Championship in August; same place. You gonna make it?

NRA in all their wisdom put us in the Shooting Sports as in Harrison Texas instead of Harrison Tennessee. They still wouldn't publish the write-up on last year's State championship because it was a couple of weeks late getting to them.
