I received interesting advice about my stance that I would like to run by you all.

It was observed that when shooting my hunter rifle, my head is cocked to the side so that I may see through the scope. Advice was to cant the rifle to the left (I shoulder the stock on the right) so that my head would stay upright (and my ears level) AND to re-level the scope in the rings (which would restore normal windage/elevation crosshair relationships).

I've tried it - though have yet to move the scope - and it seems to work for me.

Any of you folk experimented with this?

experimented lots,

my smallbore hunter and standard rifles have cant, my highpower standard an hunter has cant in the scope also, with each rifle, the the degree of cant is different,

cant has definatly made me a better offhand shooter, the rifles are alot more confortable when u dnt have to crane your neck to get to the scope

i have also found that adding cant makes you lean back more, which then moves more weight to your center of gravity rather then off to one side, my sb standard is about a 25 degree cant, while my hp standard has only about 10 degrees, it all depends on the type of stock the rifle has, and whatever is confortable

It's easier for me to repeat the position if the scope is level, even if I'm not - hey, I'm always a half bubble off center. Actually, everything is setup so I can just flop onto the stock and take a nap.

thats what cant alows me 2 do

keep in mind you may find you need to adjust windage as you adjust elevation for further targets. canting with some back bend also allows you to maintain proper center of gravity. to take full advantage of cant you may want to adjust your position as well.

the only rifle i need to take into account windage is my sb standard rifle, even then it is only half minute of difference, i add a quarter minute left at turkeys, and a quarter more at rams, then for chickens i bring it back half a minute,

i have had to change my whole stance to take full advantage of cant also, although to much cant will cause you to turn your neck towards the animals , depending on how high your scope mounts are, my sb hunter is right at 1.45 inches above the top of the receiver, the more cant i add with that rifle my neck gets tired quick from having my head turned

I fortunately have a rifle that qualifies for an offset scope. Makes things a little easier. Although other rifles I own could benefit greatly by cantering the scope. Wish I had thought of doing this a longtime ago.

Cooey model 60, ejects shells straight up...so my scope is just about 10 degrees off centerbore.
