The following post is nothing more than whining, bitching, and complaining on my part. Please don't take it too seriously.
Yep.....five in a row, the last five scheduled HP matches, including today, scrubbed due to crappy weather. All this week we had nice weather in the 50's and 60's, but you are stuck indoors at work. The weather wizards told us early on that we could expect some snow on Sunday, they were right. Woke up to 4 inches of wet snow, high winds and 26 degrees. To add further insult, Denver's high yesterday was 75. Tommorow will be sunny and in the 50's. It's enough to make a grown man cry
Yeah....I can hear you say .."but Bob, it is still winter". Well, despite the fact that our mountains have recieved record snowfall, Denver and the eastern plains have been spared of heavy snow. The range at CRC has been mostly dry so far this winter. Here in CO we normaly get 300 plus days of sunshine each year, at least that is what they tell us. It only gets crappy on the 1st Sunday of the month.
It is hard to believe that a city the size of Denver supports only about 25 smallbore silhouette shooters. And of these, only 12 to 15 show up regularly to a match. And of this same group only about eight of us shoot highpower on a regular basis. Our HP numbers are 1/3 of what they were 15 years ago. We do have Cowboy and BPCR shooters but only a couple shoot SB with us. I periodically ask if anyone wants to shoot a make up match or shoot HP more than once a month, the answer is almost always no. Some reasons are " I can't shoot HP more than once a month" or "it will interfere with next weeks SB match" or "we always shoot HP on the first Sunday, this is what we have always done" or my favorite excuse "I can't possibly keep up with that much reloading"
. I have heard plenty of lame excuses. What is a Match Director to do? Our group is primarily a smallbore crowd, HP is not taken that seriously.
Six of us HP shooters are heading to Arizona to shoot their State match on April 12 & 13. I myself have gotten in a few good HP practice sessions and a few SB matches in the past several weeks. But there is nothing like a good match to hone your skills. If we are lucky we might have one HP match April 6th before heading to AZ the following weekend.
Well thanks for listening, I feel better already. Time to go shovel some snow out of the driveway...........see ya.
