OK time for another poll. heheh I am now curious on who shoots fixed or variable power.

Variable seemed like a good idea but I always used the same power and it makes sense to simplify where possible. At the low end, 15 power works well for me and 25 is about maximum - above that seems really tiring.

All of mine are variables, but as stated in the last post, I leave them at the same power and shoot them there all the time anyway.

I am shooting a 24x right now and thinking about trying a 6.5 to 20 and try 20 power. On a good day 24 is fine. On a bad day it is very frustrating.

I have 18x40 and 6.5x20 and both stay arround 20x. I have one high power with a 24x and three other smallbore with 24x. For me anthing between 20 and 24 works.

I had rwo 18x40's that I sold and went back to the 6.5x20's. I found on some days I really wanted to be below 18 power so I went back to the 6.5x20's.

I wish we could get Leupold to make a 10x25, that in my mind would be perfect.

I have 2ea 18x40s and they both stay around 32 to 35.

i have a 6x24 sightron. shot it at 6x for a year or so. now shooting at 24x but spent a couple months at 16x - 18x. will often shoot different banks of the same animal on different powers to mix things up.

Dave, do you find yourself switching when the hold becomes tough?

mmm... no... i switch because i can. get tired of looking at the same old thing. just changes things up a bit.

I have to share this story. Dave came out to shoot in Jan after taking some time to work with his dogs? Hadn't picked up a gun in months I believe he said.

He took 57/60 and when I asked how he liked his score, he remarked he was disappointed he missed a chicken - LOL! He's got a point, but I snicker when he's asked if something's tough.

I use weaver T36s on both of my SB guns and both HP guns.
I do this to keep it simple they all function the same and have the same power and sight picture.

I use a 30 power on the hunter and a 36 on the standard. I'd use thirty on both but got a great deal on the 36 coudn't pass on. I figured theres not that much difference from 30 to 36. I would sell the 36 if i could find someone who want's that much magnification. I had Wally Siebert put a 3/8th dot in it. The 36x is a older leupold benchrest scope. Got it new in the box, no scratches and no ring marks at all.

How much for the Leupold 36 w 3/8 dot ? I need one for my 52B sporter I just bought. ...Or I could use it on my 204 Ruger, and put it's 6-18 Leupold on the sporter.

Fick_2141: Before I'd buy any Leupold it's best to contact Chicken George at http://www.chickensshootingsupply.com/ There have been some problems with focus at SB & HP distances. I know that George has said that Leopold has corrected them but don't know how deep into the supply at vendors they went with fixes. Also don't know what models, There was some discussion on this awhile back and is worth checking out before you spend $600.
