Hey folks,

I'm currently stationed overseas with the USMC/USN and I am very interested in smallbore silhouette for when I return to the US. I'm considering ordering an Anschutz 1712 Silhouette Sporter and mounting a Sightron SII 6x24 with dot. Not sure which mounts. I guess this will in part depend on what kind of weight I have.

Is there a monthly publication or book available that deals with this sport?
Any other reading you would recommend?

How can I get in touch with Marvin Pearson to speak with him about his mounts/rings?

You have selected a very solid foundation for your equipment. Folks can and will argue/discuss the merits over one rifle or scope vs. another but, given what you have selected, you can get different but you won't get better. no publication that i know of. certainly books, articles, and information regarding off-hand shooting. My first source of quality information was a USMC manual.

Always glad to have new blood in the sport. This forum is about the best source of info as far as what's new, what works, and where to go next. When you come back stateside, where are you going to live? Maybe you could make contact with a club in your area.

Now as far as helping a new guy out there are a few things you got to do and know concerning silhouette shooting. You are actually required, if not by law by good taste to attend the Southern Nationals in Winnsboro La. Attendance at the Sunshing Classic in Fla and the Midsouth Classic in Arkansas is also highly recommended. There are other classy shoots around the country that are worth a look too. And you must beware of Duckgumbo, Dawg, and especially Chiken George. Chiken George will steal your food, twist your knobs and most likely make you believe that it was all your fault. Duckgumbo and Dawg are fairly good folks, but there are those in this sport that think that the Duckster and Dawg and yes, even me have a corrupting influence on people. Imagine that. Oh, and you need to get you a cool mascot like my Spottin Kitty. Stick it on your gun and you won't lose it on the line at a match where everyone's gun looks like yours..
