I just read the 1712 feeding problem described below, and thought I'd describe how my 1712 ejects spent cartridges. Many times, the ejected cartridge goes basically "straight up", bouncing off the bottom of the scope, and ending up laying in the feeding/ejection port. If I consciously lean the rifle over to the side, this doesn't happen.

Is this common for Anschutz rifles, or should the ejection be more out to the side, as it looks like it should?

I guess I need to start looking for a set of peep sights for my 1712 then.

Maybe I could use a hose clamp to hold the front sight on.

I purchased my 1712 FWT in 1999 and have shot well over 50K rounds during that time. Remember that how hard the shell ejects is totally dependant on how we work the bolt. Work it soft and yes the shell may end up in the loading port. My experience has been that even if this happens the bolt pushes the empty out of the way when closing the bolt. I think if you just work the bolt with a little more force your problem will go away.

Paul, you are correct. I work hard at inner calm during a match, and this frequently translates to working the bolt too softly. So now it is an issue of discipline, just like keeping my trigger finger outside the trigger guard until it's time to fire. You have to use the gear the way it is intended.

My wife and I had the same issue with our 1712.

She solved it by consistently leaning the gun a little when she pulls the bolt to eject the spent shell.

I just put the rifle butt down on the table before opening the bolt to eject the spent shell and this seems to solve the problem as well.

I would not recommend jerking it back hard because as Blaubear said it will mess up your inner calm , but just enough to let that shell jump out.

I tend to lean the rifle over as well, and consciously watch the ejected case fall out before closing the bolt.

I just didn't know whether others were having similar issues, or the funky ejection was unique to my rifle.

Just my $.02, but this situation is correctable by weakening the grip of the left side extractor causing it to turn loose before the right side. The desired result of pulling back the bolt is to eject the case far to the right side (or anywhere clear of the action. The weak left side ejector should result in the case popping out to the right when working the bolt. To test the theory, just remove the left side ejector and work a few EMPTY cases and watch how they go right. They will exit right.

I had bought a new Charles Daly Superior II (for a beater rifle, OK) that had the same crappy ejection. I removed the extractor and it worked great. I ended up stoning the sharp edges off the extractor and re-installed. Viola! Problem fixed.

Just about everyone's 1712 at the range, including mine, has weak ejection. There's got to be a joke here.

Someone should have advised the factory of this before thew went and made the sporter series.....

Such incompetance in a major manufacturer.....Wouldn't doubt that Anzchutz is behind the Remington 504 debacle is some way......

Ya gotta pull the bolt open like you got a pair, you can't limp wrist it.

This happens. On my rifles, snapping the bolt open, as I tend to do after certain shots, makes it worse.
