Is there a standard width between each amimal, when setting them up on the stands?

Since the question was answered in the first reply, I suppose it's okay to chat a bit. Isn't it?

This idea isn't going to work for regulation targets but it's fun do do for practice.
I can't shoot at regulation silhouettes all the time. The management of my rifle club only puts the silhouettes up on certain nights. They'd all get stolen, otherwise.

So, for practice targest I use the lids off empty tin cans.
Just think! I get two free practice targets every time I buy a can of soup! ;)
I use a 1# coffee can lid for the 100 yd targets. Then there are the lids from "Chunky Soup" I use for the two middle rows. For the front row I use golf balls. These make good practice targets because they are just a hair bit smaller than the regulation animals. I figure if I can learn to hit those, the real thing will be easy. Right?

I set my practice targets so they are either one or two palm widths apart. It just so happens that my hands are just a bit wider than 3-1/2". If I do things just right, the targets all line up pretty closely with the graduations of my mil dot scope. (Every other dot.)

It's kind of neat to just go down the line and line up with the dots. I wish the real things could be set up that way.

You getting bored with benchrest and going to silhouette, Joe?

We just completed a 200 yard range at our club, and we are planning some benchrest silhouette matches out to 200 yards. Rams at 200. We don't have any information on what distance the other animals should be set. We are thinking 75 yards for the chickens, 100 yards for the pigs and 125 yards for the turkeys.

That sound about right? Maybe too far for the rams?

I read in the Rifleman several years ago that shooting at 200 yards with the rimfire was about the same as 1000 yards with the 30/06.

We ran some NRA sanctioned standing matches at our club several years ago, but the interest dropped off. Everyone here wants to shoot from a bench, so we figure maybe this long range metallic silhouette thing might fly.

If you're using Imperial distances and twice the maximum distance. Yards vs meters , then why not have your targets set at twice the distances as
for offhand. Chickens at 80yd, pigs at 120yds, turkeys at 154 yds and
rams at 200yds. I would think a good rifle with its favourite ammo in the
calm would clean this course off the bench.

I"ll take that suggestion to the next club meeting.

But: Twice the distance = 4 times the wind drift.

Those turkeys would be tough at 154 yards! And I suspect that some of the higher power scopes will not have enough elevation.

The distances I'd suggested were close to what you were thinking of already. I would think the 200yd ram would be the only one you would have elevation problems with. That little 22 does seem to sink like a 'rock in a pond' beyond 100m and any wind would be a real challenge!
I should give this a go on our range.

try them offhanded at 77 yards lol. I enjoy bench shooting, to sight in. Maybe it would be more fun at twice the distance off a bench I don't know but at regular distance off a bench it would get boring quick. Seems more people want to shoot off rests and benchs these days. Perhaps with the cost of ammo going even higher no one wants to miss a shot
