Yup... did that. That was on Monday and he said he was going out to eat and than post and up date and pictures. The last we heard from him, about ready to call out the National Guard.... ummmm mean the Big Dawg to find him.chardonnay wrote:Has anyone tried, " Here Kitty kitty"

Last I saw Kitty was at the restaurant Wednesday night. Can't tell you if he made it home or not. Could he be hitch hiking his way home like the monkey?
We all gathered (well, those who wished to actually be sociable) at Pappa's after the match to eat, imbibe and discuss the incredible 2007 National Silhouette Championship. We had sun and scenery, beautiful cool weather (after up that amazing week in the West when Death Valley hit 126F!). We also had monsoon rains, hail and unbelievable winds DURING the matches.
Monday gave us some breezes but not bad. It was a beautiful day for shooting. Everyone's scores but mine should have been fine. Certainly I can't blame the weather. It must have been the intimidation factor of shooting with Cathy, Laura, Teresa, Reann, Jeanie and Blondie.
Tuesday afternoon during Relay 3, I believe, the rain came down like I haven't seen since my days in the Amazon and then the hail. I was spotting on the line and it was just incredible with the noise. Jerry G said it was nearly impossible to focus on the target for all the hail streaking past his view. Many shooters began asking whether the match would be called or delayed but on it went.
Wednesday dawned cool as we got down to the range to do a little warmup practice. Practice ended at 8:00 and before the setters could finish setting the target the wind came up so hard that the rams were blown off their racks. Then the turkeys and pigs began to come down. The setters continued to reset the targets while the officials tried to decide what to do. Eventually they decided to continue with the match, attempting to move competitors to different shooting points to compensate. Nothing seemed to work except shooting what you had and using the swingers for the rest.
I watched some amazing shooting that afternoon. My scores were down to a third of what I should have been shooting but I watched the Masters deal with the wind and figured I would try to do the same. I still don't know how they did it. I watched through the scope as stands 3 and 5 showed up in my scope while I tried to shoot stand 4. Jerry R., who was shooting 5, claimed to have seen rack 7 go by on his way back from an extreme swing. On some stages I only shot two or three out of five shots because I waited so long for a lull.
The wind moderated to a breeze on the second and last match Wednesday. It felt like a repreve though my scores still were nothing to brag about. At least I was still there. Some shooters gave up, quit shooting and left.
Too bad for them. It was worth all the effort to watch the shoot offs. There was a three way shoot off in Master Class followed by what must be the most suspensful shoot off I have ever seen. Cathy Winstead Severin (forgive my spelling Cathy if I'm wrong) and Reann Wilson. Set up as a five shot aggregate, the shoot off extended to 15 shots before Cathy decided the affair by a single target. The spectators oohed and ahhed with each shot.
Shooting doesn't get much better than that: wind, rain, hail, a beautiful range and wild game. There were all kinds of wonderful people from Mexico, Ireland, South Africa and even the Republic of Texas. We have lots of wonderful ladies and girls shooting. I was impressed. Next year I hope I can shoot like a girl too.

I think you did a good accounting of all that happened except that it was a day off, last day of shooting was Tuesday 7/10/2007. That was when the hurricane went through in the morning, the typhoon was on Monday afternoon.
Everything else I agree with you.
Kitty might have slipped you something else to drink that night and .........

Dave, excellent blow by blow account. This is my first nationals but I am impressed with the skills of alot of the top shooters. Like machines I telll you .

You are right of course, everything above is one day off. Well, Sunday seemed like Monday 'cause that's when all the work started and Tuesday seemed like Saturday cause that's when all the stress was over and Thursday seemed like Monday cause that's when I had to go back to work. Wow, that tough for a dislexic to even think about. Guess I'm just lucky to shoot the right bank on the right relay.
By the way, I am not the biggest talker at the match only the largest. There were some real Master Class talkers there that put me to shame.
There were a couple of cooks too. Next time the Nationals are at Whittington we're having a cook off in the competitor housing. Those of you who ate in Competitor Housing 1 know what I'm talking about.
