Am considering this nice looking rifle as a newbie in the hunting and standard class. Twice the price of a CZ but I like that it's basically an Anschutz and I assume no trigger work will be necessary.

A friend w/ an FFL priced one at $675 but didn't check on availability.

I've been shooting skeet w/ an adjustable comb and butt plate so I'd like a similar fit, if possible, w/ a rimfire but w/o going full-blown custom. I like the Weatherby stock as well as the CZ Silhouette.

Any comments on the Weatherby including its availability? Thanks.

I have an interest in looking at one of those too bob. I would graduate my boy to it from a CZ.

Keep in mind that this is the 64 sporter action. I'm sure someone here can tell you the correct model # (14XX something or other). Not to say that it's not a good rifle, but it's not a 54 sporter if that is what you are refering to when you say.

That's like saying a chevette and a corvette are the same b/c they are both Chevy's..... Diferent actions, different triggers, etc. Not to say BAD, but different!

I'll admit up front that I've never used a 64 action, but would expect they are a step up from CZ although I'm definitely not bashing CZ - they're great, high value rifles just not Anschutz.

The Anschutz barrel is a step up from CZ, a small one that is insignificant in silhouette. The trigger and the fit are the things to consider. When you step up from what CZ has to offer in those areas you might as well step all the way. It doesn't make sense to me to pay $6-700 for something almost as good as an Anschutz. I don't know the rifle. If it's as good as an Anschutz in the areas that matter in this sport, it's a bargain. If it ain't, it aint. 2 cents.

The 1416 is a 64 action which is lighter and has a differant bolt design than the 54 action or what most know as the 1710. Now the triggers are the same except the 1416 has a safty on the trigger and the 1710 uses a bolt safty. Both triggers are single stage. The 1712 uses a 54 action and has a differant cam in the trigger to mak it a two stage. This cam can be installed in both the 1416 and 1710 triggers to make them two stages also. Have owned several 1416's and still own a 164 which is the predessor to the 1416. The 1416 is a very light action and therefore is less steady to me. Great bushy tail guns when the hunt is a three day event and weight is an issue.

So what is the price difference in the Anschutz sporter in the 64 action vs the Weatherby stocked 64? Guess that would break the choice down to basics.

When I tried to get a Weatherby earlier this year it was literally just a few dollars higher than a comparable Anschutz. Unless you just want a Weatherby because it's beautiful the Anschutz is more available.

I don't know anything about Annies, except they are supposed to be good, and supposed to be expensive. What are the dollar ranges a person can expect when shopping for Anschutz's. Also, what are the better models to consider for silhouette, and what are the usual upgrades done, and cost, when a new one is purchased.

I am just looking at what it would cost to get an Annie silhouette ready.

The Anschutz 1712 is ready to rock and roll out of the box and costs $1,350 and up. If pretty is as pretty does, then this thing is gorgeous.

I have a buddy of mine wanting to get rid of a 1712 fwt , he wants 1450, for the whole thing. Includes a weaver t36 and two mags, if you're intererested I wil get you in contact with him.

A local gun shop had a new Weatherby XXII the other day, and that thing is beautiful! Stock is prettier than imagined, and very well proportioned, too. Plus, the bluing was better than I expected! Balance and feel is great - if you want one, get it. You'll be glad.
