I shoot silhouette with my Anschutz 1712 and am fighting the trigger adjustment/pull. After reading the booklet that came with the rifle, I adjusted the trigger pull so that the second stage triger pull was present with a glass-break like let off - Great, but a LONG first stage pull and too short a length of pull.

Problem is this:

When I adjust the trigger for a very crisp second stage let off, the first stage take-up is LONG, causing the trigger pull to be too short for me;

When I adjust the trigger for a comfortable length of pull for me, the second stage trigger pull weight is neither crisp or light enough.

I have heard that there is a trigger smith that recontours the Anschutz 1712 trigger cam to help me with my quandry. Anyone know who that may be an have an contact number or websight?

Fighting the same problem with my 1712.... wish they had put the 54.18 match trigger in these because there is no happy medium with the one now. I'm also noticing that some times it's letting off in a different place e.g. sooner then the previous shots, which make for some interesting shots.

I posted this same topic many months ago on steelchickens but did not get much help. I talked to the gunsmith/rifle builder Evelio McDonald on Saturday night at the Southern Nationals about this same problem. Evelio said that both the 5018 and the 5022 trigger group have the same bolt spacing as the 1712 receiver and will fit on the 1712. He did not have time to get into any details if some fitting was required because of the difference in safety design. Maybe Evelio will respond with more details or options about solving this common problem.

The 5018 trigger does have the same hole spacing. But the bolt to trigger ingagement is different. I made a new lever to make this conversion. I gave the trigger to Briley and they are going to make a conversion. I think they have the parts cut out but need to put them on the milling machine. But they don't have the time to do it yet. I would hope that they will do this soon. This would be the best of both worlds. I need to cantact them and see if they are making any progress.

sdwooster, thanks to you and briley for providing a solution that is greatly needed. My 1712's fit me fine in their old Mcmillan stocks. No better than I am shooting, I cannot justify spending the money on a Pearson/Pharr/McDonald rifle. Many people would love to put the 5022 trigger group on the trusty 1712 or 1710 action. We are looking forward to seeing this product on the market.

Whoa Bobby, we did talk some in Winnie, but you did most of the talking about racing and building engines, and I did say that the bolt spacing was the same, but it is not a drop in job, it will take quite a bit of machining on the 1712 receiver to make everything fit.
I have converted several 54.18 triggers to 2 lbs. triggers, by changing the springs, and they do work really good.
The best Anchutz trigger smith that I know is Neal Stepp, he has converted a few 1712 single stage to two stage triggers for me, and they turned out pretty good. You can tell him exactly what you want on the first and second stage, and he will adjust them pretty close. You will still have to do some minor adjustments once you put it on your action.
