It is with great sadness I must tell you that Chad passed away today about 2 pm MST. He was known as "yankee" on this site. We had just finished our state HP match and were enjoying a beer among friends when an apparent heart attack struck him. Several of us administered CPR while waiting for EMT and flight for life. To no avail, he was pronounced dead when they arrived. This is a great loss to the silhouette community. I can not write anymore............

Oh no! Chad was a great guy. I know that was a very difficult thing for you guys to go through. That's a huge loss.

Sad to hear this, I remember at the Fort Worth Nationals he had a metal stocked rifle and much later the stories of the winter he worked at the Whittington Center. A loss for the silhouette community and a bigger loss for his family.

This is indeed very sad. Chad always gave us good advice when we were going to shoot at a range for the first time. Everything from details about the range to the best places to stay and eat. A very detail oriented man who cared about other people and wanted to make sure they had a good time and shot to the best of their ability. I will miss my conversations with him. The blessing was that he passed away amongst friends who cared about him and not strangers.

Chad was one of the greatest ambassadors for our sport, and rifle shooting in particular, from inception of the game to present. He was as fine a gentleman, squadding partner, and travel buddy as any man could wish for. Silhouette without a "10 RAMS" plate in the parking lot will never be the same.

Just an update. Mary spent the night at our home and seems to be doing well. I do not think reality has hit her yet. Her two daughters arrived in Denver this morning at 9am and got to our place at 10:30. Sara prepared a nice lunch for us all and we went back to the range today to retrieve most of the valuable items in his van and camp trailer. The items will go back home when arrangements are made to drive the rig back to Illinois.

Good thing we went today, the propane ran out and the fridge was warming up. All food was OK and transferred to coolers to bring to a nieces house in Denver. Speaking of that special "10 RAMS" license plate, I was told the van will be sold as she does not like it and has her own car. I asked if I may have one of the plates to make a memorial plaque in Chads honor to display inside the stat house at CRC. Absolutely! all three said.

When we were done securing the rig all three girls walked over, hand in hand, to the spot where he fell. A big black thunder cloud was approaching fast. After a few minutes a micro burst wind storm erupted creating a dust storm like when the medivac chopper landed and took off in our gravel lot.

It was as if Chad was saying "I am OK, now go home! We all hugged and went our separate ways. We will miss you, Chad.

Probably not a better way to go but he checked out to early. He shot a good match and was jovial right up to the end I'm told, didn't hear about it until I got home.
