I sure have had some fun with my Nikon Buckmaster 4.5 X 14 which made 3rd in state in July, class B , with second place shoot out. I lost. I learned it is not powerful enough for me on the turkeys and rams for my first year at this sport. I made class A last month which made my goal with my Marlin 39A. Earlier this month, I worked at our local gun show sponsored by our club and discovered a new in the box Simmons 6.5-20 X 44 Mag which has been a discontinued model for $90.00. It has fine cross hairs which I prefer. I got it mounted on my 39A and love the shorter eye relief and brightness improvement. Optics are great, IMO. Also, it adjusts down to 50 feet for indoor paper with clarity. I am waiting for bore sighting to be done by our gunsmith. We finished our season last month and temps have been in the 40's. We move into indoor paper Jan 3. I also prefer a 1" high scope mount. I am left handed, with slight cateract in my left eye, w glasses, and this new scope with more magnification, will help with those turks and rams!

My wife and I both use Leupold 6.5x20 EFR scopes on our Evelio stocked 1712's. The wife shoots Master and I shoot AA. She shoots on 12X and does VERY well. I have since gone down to 12X and my scores have improved. I (and she) just found higher power to be very ahrd to hold and counter productive. Working with some new shooters, I have had them reduce their scope magnification and their score have also improved.

You and Twila are probably the rule, George. With more experience (not better scores, just more experience!) I respect the the Leupold VXIII EFR 6.5-20x40 or it's little brother the VXII 6-18x40 as the only scopes I really need.

With my slight cateract in eye, at 77 and 100m the T and R's are fuzzy with max pwr 14X. Especially at 100M. By having 16X for T and 20X for Rams as example, image should be more clear and visible to me. I use 6X for C and 12X on P's. I'm still working on technique to min wobble. Our 3 class AAA have scopes in the 30's and don't know how they do it. They let me try and I was all over the map!
