Finally got my Weatherby Mark XXII. Updated!

Ghost, check the torque on the receiver screws. I set mine at 5 newton-meters with the anschutz torque wrench. Mine were loose from the factory. That is about 44 inch pounds. Mitch

I am getting it bedded. I have heard from a few Mark XXII owners that the stock is the problem and bedding is a good solution.

Ghost it doesn't cost anything to torque the receiver screws up to 45 inch pounds (front screw last) and you can still bed it if that doesn't work. Mitch

to late... I already sent it off. BUT I did play with the torque on the screws a little before deciding to get it bedded.

I honestly can't tell you his name. A friend of a friend. I know that sounds bad, but the guy has build many rigs for the shooters around here and has a very good reputation.

OK, so tell me more about the weatherby. A guy at work was selling his Mark XXII and I just peeked over his shoulder to admire the pretty wood but since they already had a deal going I didnt pay that close of attn. now it seems that the deal has fallen through. so heres the deal now, owner says its only had less than one box of ammo through it. and it looks it. he said he couldnt get used to the "funky trigger". doesnt the weatherby have an adjustable trigger? it has a 3x9 veri X on it. he said he had had it a couple of years, but with this guy that could mean anything from two to twenty. so were all of them made by anschutz? how long have they been selling this model? when I have it in my hands is there anything I should look for? It does have such nice wood that Ill have to get a new PU to carry it around in. be kind of like dating a cheerleader in a pinto.all said and done it would be only about $200 more than the CZ 453 varmit I was looking at.it had really nice wood too. #57

It's made / put together by Weatherby who obtains the barreld actions from Anschutz and puts them into the beautiful Weatherby stocks. From an Anschutz point they supply a Anschutz 64 series action and sporter barrel. There are many opinions on which action, CZ or Anschutz's 64 is better, but I have 2 64 actions and they are fine, not as rugged as the 54 series actions, but I like the adjustability of the Anschutz triggers better then on the CZ. Both are fine rifles, just depends on which 'Cheerleader' you want to take to the dance

Stock fit alone is worth the extra, and the trigger is much better. Definitely go for the Weatherby.

Let me Ask ? Is this a semi-auto or a bolt Gun. Weatherby put out both with the same name. [*]The bolt gun is by anschutz!!!

So I got my rifle back and finally went to the range for testing. I shot a box of each kind of ammo and 50 then another box at 100. I tested several types of ammo and it was a long day at the range. The weather was perfect for most of the time there. No wind whatsoever, overcast, about 70 degree, but eventually a light drizzle started. Ammo tested was; Eley Match, RWS R-50 and Subsonic, Lapua Center-X and Master L, SK Standard Plus, and CCI Standard Velocity.

I was surprised by the results. The RWS didn't shoot well (roughly and inch at 50 and 2.5 at 100) in the rifle and the Subsonic actually shot slightly better than the R-50.
The Eley shot half an inch at 50 but opened up to about 1.5 to 2 inches at 100.
Sk Standard plus shot very will at 50 with most groups going into half and inch and some smaller than that, but again opened up to around 1.5 at 100.
The CCI will be practice ammo. It would group just over half an inch at 50 but hovered around 2 to 2.5 inch groups at 100. Flyers really messed up these groups.
The best ammo tested was the Lapua. Both shot great. Tiny ragged holes at 50 (roughly 1/4 inch) and averaged one inch groups at 100 with several groups measuring 3/4.
The best group of the day went to the Eley though. At 100 I managed to produce a half inch group with it. I couldn't duplicate it again though which is sad.

These are just rough measurements. I didn't have a ruler or anything to measure the groups, just the inch grid squares on the target. I used one edge of one target and divided the squares into fourths. I also measured the outside to outside of the groups so if you use the center to center method, groups will be smaller. I'll try to get some pictures up soon.
