Keep rifle in position for all 5 shots, or lower it between?

This is what we do.

All because of the latest female chasing him, you gotta meet this one that showed up while I was out west. WHat was the Arkansas girls name?? The one with the B.F. Butt...

Uh oh - guess I won't take that bait... I clean more often to keep lead fouling down, but have confirmed that getting the bore really clean degrades accuracy. Lots of seasoning survives a simple cleaning, but something like Bore Tech will strip it out and it took 20 rounds for my 1712 to settle down, and it isn't fully seasoned after 200 rounds. Regular light cleaning is (IMHO - I definitely don't want to ignite this argument) good, but deep cleaning is reserved for July 4th and Christmas.

Blau Bear,
I have done both the clean after every twenty rounds for record when I shot prone/position to the clean when the rifle finally is so gummed that it will not extract. In my prone/position days, I got to clean all 14 DCM (predecessor to the current CMP) loaner rifles to the junior club, along with my brothers Annie and my Winchester....three times a week. The Hoppes 9 that was used then probably altered my brain forever.
I do know that I am extremely sensitive in skin portion of my hands to all oil products now, thus the reason for light cleaning and only serious stuff done when the holidays come!!!!

Understood - once a year in the service I spent four hours a day for a week in front of a cleaning vat (55 gallon drum cut in half) full of diesel scrubbing M14's. More recently a brother persuaded me to fill a cleaning vat with a Witch's brew that peels paint and scrub everything thoroughly after every trip to the range.

Now, I generally pull through a few patches, oil exposed metal, wipe down wood and let it be until next time. This is still a little obsessive, but better than before. I really hate tingly hands.

I do not think you have to worry about the Frenches buddy, they are hunting in a different class of bird from you and Coatez. I'll tell you how I got linked to the web site sometime, but despite the how's and who's the photos of a Western Europe ride are fantastic.

If you like keeping the rifle shouldered for all five shots, a 10/22 is the one for you! Granted, they need a new barrel, trigger work, bolt truing and an adult size stock, but you can use the factory receiver and magazine!
