I'm also looking at ties for bullet collectors/protectors as well as old telephone poles.

We got a permit from our Dept of Natural Resources and built backstop from junk tires filed with screenings and buried by more screening, They trap millions of rounds,,,,don't disintegrate. Ties or poles splitter and will ricochet rounds

Can you post a picture of this? I'm in the preliminary stages of coming up with a couple backstops and this sounds intriguing... Not exactly sure what you're calling screening (chicken wire, hail screen, screen door fabric, etc?).

Screenings are real fine crushed stone. They are used often when laying brick or stone sidewalks. They pack real tight.
I would imagine tires filled with this material would be a great backstop.
We surrounded one of our bunkers with tires on our HP range, but we filled them with sand. The bunker is concrete blocks with a concrete roof. Very safe.

Hi Al. Missed you at the last match at consolidated. It was very HOT and only about half the shooters showed up. Still a good time though. Could you do me a favor and send me pictures of the rail set up and some bunker photos too. It would help when I try to present it to the club for reference. I ment to do this when I was there but couldn't wait to get in my car and crank up the AC.

Sounds like crushed tailings... Around here the granite tailings are ground and used for paving, particularly in areas where asphalt might be less ecologically desirable.

Like I said we got a permit from our Dept of Natural Resources....a state arm of EPA.....I'll wager your comparable state department would love to have a safe way of ridding your state of junk tires. The key is filling them so no water stagnates or pools and they get completely covered. I'll get you pictures this weekend. BTW the boys from Louisiana and Colorado have seen it...

Al that's fine. Send them to my regular email if you could. I was hoping to present my plan to the BoD tonight but it will have to wait till next month. I'm not in a hurry and I will need to get a few things hammered out before I do anyway. But the more info I have the better. The range is narrow and has to be shared with other disaplines.
