For the most accurate scope adjustment, you should never be anywhere close to the extreme adjustment of the scope. If possible, try to shim the scope to have the zero point of adjustment about half way from chickens to rams. If it takes too many shims, it may distort the scope tube when tightened. You can lap or get different rings that may work out better.

I used a one piece mount that accepted weaver rings. The top of the mount was cut at a down angle to keep the scope adjustment in mid range. I seldom needed to use any shims at all.
