The targets we use are cut steel with the feet welded on. I don't really know where they came from. I don't remember which targets the Pe Ell club was using for the CBC, but most places up here seem to have the cut steel ones instead of the cast ones from what I can remember.

I did a terrible thing yesterday by testing some Eley Super Silhouex - I liked it. A lot. I'm terribly, terribly sorry.

So far, she has carefully avoided asking how much it costs. Last year I used Eley Practice 100 for practice and Silhouex for matches (they are identical ballistically, the Silhouex is just more consistent), but their prices are up so much this year I'll probably switch to Federal 711B. Eley primers are better and I've learned to like the smell, but the cost is too much.

I'll use up the Super Silhouex for practice on my targets since the club dislikes 1200FPS ammunition on club targets, but it sure is nice to shoot... Yep, I'm pretty badly hooked.

When trying to avoid a direct question it is often good strategy to answer the question with a question that draws the other party in answering their own question with an answer they would not accept from you.......In your instance Bob, I would use the old standby if asked how much the ammo costs "Honey, it's only a little .22 rimfire, how much could it cost"?.........

Thanks John... but between that and the pictures of your new toy's I had floating around she's getting awful suspicious of my fun


BlauBear, I started using SK Jagg 'Rifle Match' or Yellow Box for the local and club shoots and only use my Eley for the big matches. All hidden away in the gun vault

As far as the custom rifle pictures it's best to tell the spouse "It's very cheaply made. The stocks some kind of plastic that's not even the same color all the way through. And look, theres not even any blue on the barrel. Absolutely bare bones............".

Good ones... I've already said hey I'll use an OLD rifle I'm not shooting now anyway. Unfortunatly I have 'friends' who tell her otherwise trying to stir the pot and get me in trouble.

I can tell her honestly that I only have one rifle now, just without a boring explanation of the difference between a CZ and an Anschutz, or a Leupold VX-II vs. an FX-III... And hey, the rings are borrowed - see how frugal I am?

It does bother me to send a dime down range every time I pull the trigger, though the Eley Sport is a little too far the other way for my taste. Six cents a bang for Federal is tolerable, though still enough to make the shots count. Shooting high power would really bring out the bean counter in me...

John, her second career choice was attorney, so evading a question with a misdirection just raises her interest, much like a shark following a blood trail. Avoiding questions from the outset is a much better strategy. Ignoring them and feigning deafness will also buy time, but at that point the train wreck is coming so just get ready.

Besides, #2 Son would rat me out just for the look on my face...

Wow, so suave. Wish I was that good. All I could come up with was, "No. It's not a new gun. Just a plastic stock." After all it, I bought it used before sending off.

What I want to know is, why couldn't the gunsmith remember to ship it back to the UPS shop instead of the house?

Does anyone use the high end Lapua (Midas) or Eley (Ultimate EPS) for matches or is the accuracy gain not worth the extra expense?

You'll see just about every brand in use. One important thing to remember is that more expensive doesn't always mean better. You have to test each candidate in your rifle to see what it likes. Pray that it won't develop an affection for Tenex......One thing that I think you do get with the more expensive stuff is consistancy.....

I hear what you are saying. I sure hope my new Benchmark two groove loves Club, Super Club, or the Eley Practice.

y'all are whining about supporting yourself with ammo, I got my second of 4 kids shooting his first 22 match tomorrow and his second airgun match. Talk about expense. Geez, they can go THRU some ammo. It's a brick everytime we go out. If I even TRY to sneak out for some practice by myself, I get pummeled when I get home. It's crazy how fast the ammo disappears. And when I go to a match, it looks like I'm going to war. It is fun watching them shoot, though...........gotta go order more........
