WRT ammunition, any standard velocity round will take the 250 yard rams down. In our three matches so far, no one has dominated. Ammunition used has been from Wolf MT to Federal AM-22 (Auto-Match). I won the second match using Aguila Super-Extra Standard Velocity (1135 fps) and won second place in a shoot off in the last match using the same ammo. We do not allow hyper-velocity ammo.

Our most popular club match each month is an off-hand .22 silhouette match using 3/8 targets at 40, 60, 77 meters and 100 yards. Shooters can number from as few as 20 to as many as 30. We have target stands also at 100 meters for NRA rules matches and could host state or regional NRA matches which is a goal we'd like to achieve.

I need to try and make it to that fun match with the 3/8 targets. I'd like to drag my wife out to give it a try . It's next Saturday, right?

We shoot two fun matches on the first Saturday of the month in Hobbs, NM. One match shooting at 3/8 size animals and one shooting 1/2 size animals. Same format as the NRA matches, same distances, just bigger targets. (If the wind is blowing hard - not unusual - we use the 1/2 size for both matches. And sometimes we have to clip them to the rail to keep them from blowing over. If clipped, we paint between each relay and any hit counts whether the animal falls or not.)
The low velocity ammo that's popular on the NRA targets won't take down the 1/2 size rams at 100m. Blazer and every kind of bulk ammo shows up at these matches. Many feel that Federal Automatch is the best choice here. (I recently got some and I'm liking it.)
We have 30 or so people show up for these matches (compared with maybe 8 shooters for the NRA matches with 1/5 size targets on the first Sundays of the month). There are no rules on the rifles that I've seen. Run what ya brung. But no one is building rifles specifically to compete in these events. The more serious competitors also shoot the NRA matches and are using the same rifles for this. Casual shooters are using whatever .22 they had laying around.
I've also shot the same sort of match in Carlsbad, NM. There, the 1/2 size rams are much heavier than ours and will not fall to a center hit from even standard velocity .22 LR. But they allow .22 Mag and some other stuff like that. To knock them down with .22LR, you have to shoot them in the butt to get them to pivot and hope they tumble off.
