Jason you are spot on, there is no advantage to high velocity in conventional small bore silhouette. You need all the accucary you can get and don't need more power. Only reason to use it is the larger CLA ram. Even there most people are better off using match ammo and working on more hits.

30 WCF my Pistol Caliber main rifle is a new Marlin 32/20. Been working on an original Marlin 1894 24 inch 38/40 though. Not going to risk something new in Pennsylvania but get that 38/40 right with black powder will shoot it in the Virginia State match last of October.
Thing I am looking for is 15 shots no wiping, quick wipe with a damp patch before it goes to the rack after a relay. Duplex loads seem to be the key. Little 4759 under the black.

Took the 39A out to our club range yesterday, paper Ram target 10 rounds with Winchester Super X HS. Then to RWS Pistol match on a paper Chicken 10 no cleaning. Repeated over and over box of 50 each it shoots the chicken just fine.

I know rifles need to settle down when changing ammo, when I shot small-bore prone and switched from practice to match ammo always shot a half a box before trusting the match ammo. However that’s a precision sport with very small targets. Its likely 39A's offhand you can't see the difference.

If anybody is interested the Marlin zero is 32 moa with RWS R50 33 moa RWS Pistol match, same MV the pistol has a more rounded bullet nose. 29 moa with the Winchester HS.
