Jerry, my paper targets are sized for their respective distances. As I don't have access to the smallbore range yet, I have to stick with 25, 50, 100, 200 , and 300 yards. Being that the Chicken and Pig targets are closest to 50, and the Turkey and Ram are closer to 100, I figured it would be as ideal as I could get. Swapping the target stand from 50 to 100 isn't difficult either, and I do wish to see how I fair at 100 as opposed to just 50. Thanks for the suggestion though, I do appreciate it! I just feel that making the distance close as possible would be the best representation for the real thing as I'm capable of getting right now unfortunately.
As for the next match being on the 20th, that's upsetting. I actually wanted to try a different style of comp at another shooting range here in the Valley. It's not smallbore though, but would be my first competition. I didn't make it to the last one, and really want to make this one. So i'm sad to say, it'll be another month of practice before I get to meet you gcsniper.
Regards,
-Dylan

Ter, I think I didn't explain myself very well. Scale them all for one distance (a close one to cut down on your walking) and shoot them all with the same sight setting.
You have a great time shooting.

No you explained your meaning well, I just assume that shooting closest to actual distances would be the best way to go for the first time around. This way, after A LOT of practice on the 50 yard line I may notice an improvement over my original scores. I've found several drills that I can practice my form with at home. I'm going to try alot of little things that should effect my form and maybe i'll figue out what works best for me.
I'm really hoping to make it to the shooting range this weekend for some practice. It's been far too long...

Terror, Jim Rose is in Canada shooting their Nationals right now, I am leaving for Mo. on Friday. Get up with one of us after the weekend and one of us will make sure that you can get some practice on the SB range in Mesa, before the next match. PM me with your contact info and I will get up with you when I get back. Jim

Dylan, I believe you can get a lot of practice right at home by dry-firing. You can work on your stance, your hold, and your trigger control. Be sure to use a snap cap or a spent case when you dry fire a 22 rimfire.

Jim,
That would be fantastic, thank you! PM on its way!

Jerry,
I whole-heartedly agree about dry firing. I'm going to give the process described in the below link a shot one of these days.

I've read alot about dry firing a rimfire, and it's something I want to do/try, but haven't yet.

hey terror, nice to see you over here. this place has a huge amount of info, get ready for some overload!
for your 50 / 100 yard dilema i just did some stuff last week, with STD VEL. ammo using a chicken zero, at 50 yards i'm .5" low POI, pigs at 50 using a pig distance on the dial 1" high POI.
turkey dope on the dial shooting at 100 yards POI is 3" low, ram dope on the dial shooting at 100 yards 1.5" high.
nothing is better than practicing at the regular ranges at regular sized targets, but for example, if you are aiming at whatever at 100 yards with your turkey distance dialed in and your POI is consistantly low by 3", you know that you are "still on"
some high vel. ammo
THESE ARE ACTUAL SIZE:
(can someone help me out and resize them? i can't seem to figure out how to do it)
chickens from 43.6 yards to 50 yards = 8.7% bigger
pigs from 65.6 yards to 50 yards = 7.6% smaller
turkeys from 84.3 yards to 100 yards = 8.4% bigger
rams from 109.3 yards to 100 yards = 9.1% smaller
thanks
there's also targets on the NRA site that can be saved and printed out
http://www.nrahq.org/compete/dept-silh.asp
and a link to the rules (smallbore is mixed in with other silhouette disciplines)
