Re: Remington model 547 question
Remington's clamped design is very twitchy about head space, at least in the 504, so I really wish they had gone to a threaded design, or at least pressed. They originally clamped the barrel so after-market barrels could be easily used, but I believe they really should have abandoned the design as a failed experiment.Another Dang 9 wrote:BCloninger wrote:There are several ways a 504 can go wrong, and most of those are fixed in the 547. My remaining complaint is that the 547 still clamps the barrel to the receiver instead of using a threaded or press fit, but the factory guarantees - and reputedly delivers - sub-moa accuracy using a Shilen barrel so there's no reason to mess with it. The only modification I'd make is to have it pillar bedded.
You would think they would have used a threaded reciever. Even ruger has swithed to a treaded reciever on the 77/22
504 bolt handles were glued on with an industrial adhesive that often broke down and left the bolt handle hanging by a set screw. The 547 bolt handle is integral to the locking ring so it can't come off. Remington also produced many 504's with bum barrels, so for the 547 they went to Shilen and eliminated that issue. Finally, to get around the finicky barrel clamp, they started assembling the 547 in their Custom Shop instead of trying to mass produce them in Tennessee.
It will never be a 1712, but it may be a viable alternative priced in between the CZ 452 and 1712; we won't know until someone tries a case or two of ammunition through one.

With as many good things I've heard about the CZ's I may roll the dice and try the 547. The price will be the deciding factor and if the local dealer can find one.

AD9...naw papers are too poverty like for him, he would need the special pads they sell at the Chinese Distribution Center with special scent added to attract him and chemically activated to release fresh spring scents after use.

BC, those aren't papers, those are electronically submitted, carefully scanned for viruses, grammatical, spelling and plagirism works of art.

AD9, having a beer with us is fine, just don't ask us to come get you to go to the nearest gas station because you ran outta gas......the ride might get interesting, expecially when you leave the wife and 10 year old granddaugther in the 'empty' van.
Don't hold your breath on BC's 504, no telling what he has done or had done to it!
