Did you ever see that movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" there, Bob? My wife made me sit through it. It turned out to be kinda funny and kinda explains the whole pink thing from the down under boys. So... any of you Aussies or Kiwis make an appearance in that movie?

Innocent, with 200 rounds of ammo in it it provides a great balance and makes up for the gun being so small and girly. As for you Quarter everything comes around sooner or later, and I have a long memory.
On a different subject I recieved my invitation from the NRA to attend the 2010 nationals but unfortunately so did the rest of the team. Looks like it will be torture at the nationals, y'all don't know what ya in for

Brace yourselves as the true Inbred Hill Billies are on the way. Contrary to popular belief The Toad and myself were not born with a spare head each just twice the brain power of the other RATBAGS on the OZ team. We are looking forward to some inteligent conversation over there but that means we won't be able to talk with our fellow countrymen (shame that). Anyway Micks new 45/70 looks good so hopefully we'll all get to have a shot and wear it out. I'm looking forward to meeting you all in person.

Looks like this year's CLA Nationals will be far from boring. I'm thinking pink t-shirts with OZ FEST on them. Tell me how that 45-70 starts shaping up. I've found a new one with the Half Oct. Half round barrel.

Going Pink for 2010. It looks like I'll need a new wardrobe for this years matches if the rules say you have to wear pink if you shoot a 357. No problem I've always been 'Pretty In Pink"

That is probably pretty good advice. If Marlin made a an XLR in blue/walnut I would jump on it. There is just something about stainless steel and a laminated stock that doesn't go with a classic lever action. Maybe Marlin can bring back the old 336a with half magazine and 24 inch barrel. There is a PA shooter who does very well with an old one that he paid $150 for.

Back Again,
As with most things in life it is always a personal preference. I'm much the same, I think the XLRs are a good bit of kit, but the laminate and stainless are a decided turnoff. For me personally a lever gun should remain along the classic line staying "true to form", however these are just my thoughts.

In regard to calibre, again it is something for the individual to decide. If you are reloading and casting your own bullets then you have almost unlimited options to find a load for yourself that is accurate & powerful enough for the job. I don't feel that the calibre or cartidge has much to do with it at all. It comes down to the shooter/reloader and how he or she wishes to have that particular rifle perform. Remember all we have to do in our chosen discipline is to knock the silhouette off the stand. Lets be honest, many of the old time cartridges can be used very effectively loaded at the old black powder velocities, which are very easy to shoot because they are so mild. For example my Marlin 375 (30yr old rifle) is loaded to send a 250gn cast bullet out at 1250fps. That load and rifle got me into master grade (although you wouldn't know it lately).That load duplicates the old black powder 38-55 load.
Two shooters who are well known to most of you shot my .375 and immediately remarked how mild and easy it was to handle. They both thought they were going to get belted with recoil in a 20" barreled carbine in .375 Winchester, this was not the case.

It would be a very boring shoot if all and sundry turned up with XLRs in 30-30, 308 Marlin or whatever. All it would tell me is that the people have forgotten the history of the firearm type they are now using. There are a good number of older lever rifles about in very good condition, it makes sense to use them. Loaded sensibly and cared for they will outlast us and can be on-sold within the discipline or handed down through the family keeping alive traditions that are fast disappearing from our modern "better" world.

Sorry to get all misty on you folk, but that is how I feel about the matter.
Go for the classics both in rifle and cartridge.....
