Couple of terms and ideas get thrown around on this board a little too freely from time to time, especially when it comes to the so called "Frankenhunter" guns...The term I dislike most is "Cheater"...building a gun within the rules out of the best parts available is in no way cheating....Marking down targets that you did not hit, that's cheating...Lightening your trigger on a hunter rifle after it passes tech, that's cheating...massaging your equipment to the fullest extent that the rules allow is not cheating...I know that there are some who dislike the way the rules are written and think that the "Frankenhunter" is ruining the sport. Those folks should take that up with those that make the rules. Calling a legal gun a "Cheater gun" and by extension one who shoots the same a "cheater" is out of line....Don't like the rules? Quit the sport, lobby for change, or run for President of the United States. Feel so strongly about not shooting a "Frankenhunter" that you can't stomach the thought? Fine...spend your money on what you want to shoot and be happy in the fact that you are doing what you can to make the shooting world a better place....

Also, the idea that it takes "big money" to shoot a "Frankenhunter" should also be examined closely....Shooting any dicipline takes a commitment of resources, shooting a custom rifle in any dicipline takes more of a commitment of resources...Let's put it into perspective...A pack a day cigarette habit (assuming a 5 dollar a pack cost) will cost roughly $1,825.00 per year. A year smoke free will get you way down the road to building a "Frankenhunter" So, it's all relative, just where you choose to spend your disposable income.

AMEN JOHN, but I will not quit smoking or drinking good Scotch so I can build a Franken________! What else is good in life without that, besides a good piece off________. Off course, I do love building good accurate guns.

By the way, while we're talking about sportsmanship (I was anyway) and since I've invoked Paul Freeman's name, one of the finest examples of sportsmanship, gentlemanliness, and what a really good Match official should be happened at the Texas State Smallbore Championship last spring. Paul was running tech inspection and weighing in guns...Bill Motl's gun came in just a fraction of an ounce overweight...Paul wouldn't make an exception (Bill did not ask for one anyway) and Bill peeled certification stickers off of his "Gay Pride Green Frankenhunter" till it made weight. No whining, bitching, or complaining. Now that is how the game should be played. It was, and continues to be an honor to shoot with folks like this.

I never said that a current rule FrankerHunter gun is cheating. So you may be talking to someone else. However, mis-assembling of 54 Sporter triggers in the 90's under off the shelf rulesWAS cheating. I'm sure that almost all who pleaded for today's rules never thought of being dishonorable in our sport. I can understand the chin gun folks not wanting to get into the old battles. Yes, excellence in sport takes equipment, talent, and practice.

I guess, by default, (since no one answered) the reason for the changes from the off the shelf gun to Frankenhunter is higher performance with a higher price, offset with many people saving $$ by going to one gun. I'm done complaining about it. Someone can message me if they have the logic and history, but it ends here for me as a public discussion - the search function will let one know what I once said.

Unfortunately those of us who own these fancy hunting rifles are being labled as being rich...I am here to say that I am far from it...I work hard doing a job that most would not dare or want to do. The rifle I use is a so called f-hunter but I managed to put it together by selling 3 other rifles and using my 30 yr old standard gun to arrive where I am with it today. I can tell you that it will not shoot for me no matter how pretty it is, that is still up to me. But I enjoy what I have. I really think that we need to stop worring about what the other guy has as long as it meets the rules and use what we have to the best of our ability and upgrade when we can to what ever suits your fancy.

If anyone has a chin gun stock and scope mount they would like to sell I would be interested. Would like to put one together just to see what I missed. Would prefer one that would work with a Remington Short action.

You didnt miss much....But if you put HP chingun togther...dont forget the teeth guard !!! since the bottom of your mouth..chin is now in direct contact with the top of the comb..stock !!!

Paul I really don't think you mean that, maybe for smallbore, but surely not for high power specially after all that money you spend in dental work. ???????????????

Paul... the last one I saw was in Neal Ward's shop. But then so was the Holy Grail, the ship's wheel off the Lusitania, George Washington's teeth, and a yellow Corvette. You might ask Neal if he still has one laying around... stranger things have happened.

Have you seen the show "Pickers" on the History Channel? Gun shop backrooms are a lot like that.

I know Im way late, but I have to admit that I think knowing the history of a sport is almost as important as knowing how to perform in such sport! Pretty awesome to see what some of the shooters before me have done. Now you guys really have my mind churning with all different ideas for modifications now. ;)
