The most important equipment attributes in silhouette are a good scope and smooth, consistent trigger. For a 10/22, you can get the trigger part taken care of by replacing a couple parts (hammer and sear). I also usually add an aftermarket extractor, magazine release, and an auto-bolt release while I have a 10/22 apart. Those aren't necessary, though. I just do those for any 10/22s that I get. I wouldn't spend any more on tweaking then 10/22 purely for silhouette than necessary to get the trigger crisper, lighter, and more consistent. You'll likely not be using it for silhouette very long if you get really hooked. That money is better spent on a good scope that will work on the 10/22 and any future gun you use for silhouette.

For a scope, the most important aspect is reliable, repeatable adjustments, with target turrets (made to be twisted back and forth) and at least decent clarity at the highest power range (if a variable power) very important also. I can't stress reliability enough here. If the adjustment system isn't consistent and reliable, you're going to be frustrated trying to figure out what you're doing wrong when you miss even though you made a good shot. As has been said, the target models from Leupold, Weaver and Sightron have proven themselves reliable and should be on your short list of choices.

An air rifle with a set of silhouette targets {one each} made into swingers are alot of fun to practice on and there is also targets scaled to 10 meters for silhouette.

Great website you have there, and some excellent updates from your "first version" of the site. The addition of the videos makes a big difference. I think yours was the first silhouette rifle specific site I found when I searched several years ago, and now I'm hooked on the sport big-time.

thanks - It is always nice to know it is apreciated. I had been wanting to upgrade it for years. I finally bit the bullet and put a bunch of hours in recreating the entire site and upgrading it in several ways. It was a painful but rewarding time consuming event. I am in the process of ubdating the range information to include Google Maps of the range locations. I have started a few things to try and get more interest in Rifle Silhouette. Therea re a few videos on You Tube.

Targets with MOA grids as an overlay?

I've seen someone with laminated drawings of the 4 animals printed on card stock and with an MOA grid overlaid on the drawing. I would love to get my hands on a set of those.

I'm trying to get my Father-In-Law involved in this sport, and want to give him some practice targets, which I can print from AZ's website - but I would also like to show him how the MOA grid works on each animal, and where the approximate center of mass is located.

I know it's a bit of a stretch - but does anyone have drawings of the animals with an MOA grid overlay?

I don't know how to use AutoCad to re-size and overlay the MOA grid, or I would use some of the ready-made drawings.

Kinda neat....animals on both sides, reversed so you can match up the way the animal is standing so are useful for both highpower and smallbore...a little delicate and too many pieces to lose for me to haul around...but they do have the grid on them.....

Wow! Thanks for all the great replies! Really looking forward to meeting everyone sometime down the line. Looks like this sport is full of a lot of good people. So it looks like I'll be using my 10/22 to start at the first match in April down in Chatt. I'll be doing a lot of indoor practice this winter. The one thing I still need is a link to a download of the targets if anyone has that. I'm going to have to scale them down and print them out since my range only goes to 25 yards. Thanks again!

If you don't find what you're looking for in targets, just get some of the stick-on target bulls. Stick two or three on copy paper and use this on your 25 meter range. Start big (2 inch is ok) and work "down" to 1 inch and 3/4 inch dots. Convenient, cheap, effective. Keep your targets to track your progress. See you in April.

I have a set of the BuffaloArms corkboards, we use them and like them.

I had some target pictures with the MOA pasted on them. I will see if I can find them and I will update the "Target" page to show them too.

They are there now at the bottom of the "Targets" page. It is a crude version and I will do it right when I get some time.
It has been a pain getting the maps worked out. It is amazing how many people take the time to have a website for their range and have a lame way of pointing out where it is located.

Mary, I have used only 3 states. One where my mail is sent to and the other 2 I have lived in. There arn't enough nationals to list all the states I have live in.

JETMUGG - The targets are updated and so is the page. It works better with the drawing format of the targets. Trying to get a good picture and match the lines onto it can be a pain.

Thanks for all the target links. I've printed some off scaled down to size. The ram looked big at first, but then I scaled it down to 25% for my 25 yard range... might be a bit harder than what I thought haha. Still really looking forward to it though! Thanks again for all the help. Sounds like a lot of really good people in this sport.
