Jared, you are in luck. There is a decent program in Albany and you should send an email to Dick Dorman who can be found at rich629#earthlink.net (replace the....) and he'll send you the schedule. But take notice, their range is in yards not meters. 77y turkeys and 100y rams is not the same as 77m and 100m speaking from experience!

I'm new to Silhouette. I went to our local private gun club one evening last October to get information. There were some skeet shooters and introduced myself. I knew at the time I needed 2 member sponsors on my application in order to join the club which had to be submitted by February 1. One of the skeet shooters did answer my questions and told me they shoot silhouette Monday evenings indoor, starting Dec. I showed up with my new Marlin 39a, with new Nikon Buckmaster BDC 4.5-14X40. They helped me get it sighted in at 50 feet and those chickens sure looked small let alone keeping the barrel steady! By February, 2 members got to know me as an upstanding citizen and signed my application to become a member. Weather was getting nice to move outdoors last week in April. Again, I received help to zero scope on the metal chickens....etc. This is really neat to finally be able to shoot at the real things and see them fall off their bases. I am officially a class B! Two Saturdays ago we had an official match and I started with the rams. 2 out of 10! Then moved to the chickens and was high and didn't get a one. I complained and Dennis said, "Did you have on the right setting?" Gees, how stupid of me as did not put down to "0" from 9. Anyway, I was able to admire our AAA and AA people with their fancy rigs. If I make it to an A status, I will be happy. I really enjoy this difficult sport and the club as a whole with black powder, pistol, high power, skeet. cowboy action...etc. I might buy a 22 pistol and learn how to shoot. My 39a will last me a long time, even though another carbine would be more suitable and accurate. This is my beginner story, starting somewhere, and having fun. I'll get better than 9 out of 40. I hope!!

Thanks, that is true! Will have to ask some of my church and golf buddies to see if can draw any interest. Our club has 600 members with about 200 actively participating. Just like church, 1500 families with 200 REGULAR active particpates for school and church. Sure glad I stocked up on .22 ammo as there is none to be had for several weeks in our area. I called my brother-in-law in GA, who we are seeing in July, to see if he would find my type and hold till we arrive.

Thank you. That would be the Beloit Rifle Club, Beloit, WI., just 10 minutes from our house. They have a lousy website that is not maintained very well and not user friendly, IMO.

It is the Beloit Rifle Club, Beloit, WI. and is 10 minutes from my home. We have a couple AAA, and AA shooters who have been most kind and helpful to me even though my rifle is a Marlin 39A bought 2 years ago new. I don't know what the best ammo for my rifle is and hope someone has some input. I have used Winchester 22 Wildcat and Remington Thunderbolt as we can use HV rd nose. The Winchester Wildcat seems more consistent. Then I have Federal Champion 510 that I will sight in this week to see if any better. I'm lucky to find any cheaper ammo at Farm and Fleet or Gander Mountain. I'd like to try the Remington Golden, but is $3.99 for box of 50 which I think Gander mountain has marked wrong. Should be more like $2.29. I am 66 and having fun with our bunch every Thursday night and need lots of practice to learn how to steady the barrel at the different animals! Guess have blabbed enough. Going out today to see if any other type ammo is available to try. Someone said that Federal 711 is pretty good, but can't find that either to try out.

You are in great company at the Beloit Rifle Club. I shot there every summer month while I lived in Wisconsin about 5 years ago, and even attended a couple of their "Frozen Finger" silhouette matches in January. If I remember correctly, they also run a summer league from May-September during weekdays, so there's plenty of shooting during the summer months.Their small bore rifle range, although relatively small, is one of the neatest anywhere. I still keep in touch with Bill L. Ask him about the desert rat shooting the frozen finger matches wearing the big mad bomber fur hat.

Joa, I did not have my notification turned to see your reply, so few months late! Our "Frozen Finger," now called, "Frosty Iron," is this Sunday. Forecast is rain and snow with sight in starting at 8:30. I missed last years, on purpose! Nice that you know we have a very nice facility. Yes, we have our summer league as you stated every Thursday eve. 50 foot Indoor paper started 2 weeks ago. Not sure what Bill L you are talking about. I know 2 Bills, one that is in charge of publicity and is known ranking national pistol champion and NRA refereee. The other Bill I know wears glasses, red hair, and shoots with us time to time, but he is of Cowboy Action group. This Sunday and Monday, I will ask the others of this Bill L. If so, will pass along your statement and where I got it. Please pray for us Sunday! Yes, our website is the PITS! It hasn't been maintained for a couple years and understand from last months meeting, we found someone for a small fee. I have not checked lately. Still might be, "Be work in progress." We will be making a $40,000+ investment to HP range to meet newer NRA safety specs. Lengthen range from 100 to 200 yards providing Beloit will allow xtra length.

Welcome to silhouette shooting....Have fun with it, don't worry about scores...And as for those that warn you to stay away from the Kitty, don't pay them any mind....I'm harmless...By the way, did you know that a chromed takedown screw and powdercoated rings look really good on a 39A??
