I keep hoping some of them can be salvaged, but meantime it's best that they don't take out any of the regulars.dwl wrote:As a range officer, I often keep a close eye on the potbellied Rambos but I don't try to stop them from shooting, I try to keep them shooting safely.

There seems to be more 'wanna be's' than what you would call dedicated 'normal' people in the sport any more.
It's sad but true. However, while I don't agree with the 'Rambo types' wants and 'presumed' needs any way we bolster the ranks is the more voices we get to keep our rights. In addition, the rush to get firearms keeps the sporting manufacturing sector going and a viable firearms manufacturing industry is a plus for all of us.

Bob259,
The firearm sales are great for the sport until you get the looneys like one of our finer Fuel Cell research students last week....from China, went off the deep end and tried to push her boss and the facility director down the stairs, tried to refuse to go out on a stretcher, until the local law enforcement offered to take her out in handcuffs. She would panic in the break room when three of us would go in together with fresh fruit and whip out our pocket knives to cut it, saying we were dangerous.
Now she is challenging being fired and looks like she will 'legally' get her job back.
Enforce the laws we have we'll be fine, and never forget that an armed society is a polite society.
Mary

It will be increasing more difficult to protect ourselves from the likes of the 'do gooders' (likes of Pelosi, Ried, Feinstein, Bloomberg, ACLU and company, etc.) that think you can legislate to the 'perfect world' that is in their eyes only, or to protect idiots from themselves.
We as a nation have to be VERY careful of these people and types as they will bring our great nation to it's knees and we will become a 3rd world slum.
I remember the folks from Ireland mentioning they couldn't have knives like we do here in Ireland either.... I think this general election has proven that the american voters have their head in the sand and are looking for the rock star and not looking at all the aspects of voting. The blind run your finger across the party line thinking has to stop and everyone needs to look at all the candidates, not just the President, fully as the President can only suggest and it's the Congress that passes and drafts the legislation.
Or.... THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!!!! add term limits for Congress, no life time full salary pensions for serving one term, over 100K you pay for you SS and medical, not free ride.... sorry getting carried away Off the soap box

Dave, I have had two of Rachel Reningers brothers working for me, lost the older one to my former boss but still have to interface with him, so when you add the 63 year old guy I pulled out of the retail firearm business the four of us tend to pack together....especially when it comes to free food, which is common with all the seminars the other deparments have.Knives in the breakroom!
The managers still haven't figured out the loyalty that I get from the crew, having gone in several times for upgrades on the my guys and will not let the upper level guys give any s*** to them. Totally confuses them, so they do not bother saying anything about our tools that we carry.

Re Shot Show
More on the wannabe's, Rambo's and as we call them back yard commando's. I would charter a bus with three stops. 1st stop, Cave Creek Rd. North of the 101, Veterans Cemetary, find a few head stones marked K.I.A., let em think about that, 2nd stop 6th St. and Indian School Rd, Veterans Hospital, let em take in all the sights, maybe a few in the rehab ward just getting back from Iraq, third and final stop. Recruting office Navy, Air Force, Army and Marines, ask em who really wants to play? Me thinks that the bus would then be full of urine and excretment and I'd never get my deposit back! Just my thoughts!

Yea, as a range officer it IS my job not to let the idiots kill anyone else. Thus I occasionally have to ask someone not to point their gun at the neighbors and to open all the actions, etc. Occasionally someone get huffy when I ask them to remove the magazines from the semiautos. I just tell them that I do it to the other people to them from shooting him. They seem to calm down a bit.
As for knives, how can a society have more people carrying cell phones than a pocket knife? I guess if you can't do it yourself then you have to call for help.
Dedication, Jim? A rare characteristic, espcially to doing what is Right.
Hey, Mary. Next time the psychotic co-worker goes berserk you should file a complaint with, not Personnel, but the police! Get a record going and have them investigate. Then the maybe your bosses will feel she is too much hassle.

Dave,
I was luckily at the shot show, not here. And I have not had problem with her yet, other than to state that we were dangerous in the breakroom with our knives. My department head was there mooching some of the fresh cut citrus himself so her bitching didn't go over too well with him, even if he is a deomcrat.
They apparently did call in the law enforcement and it was them that gave her the choice of stretcher or cuffs, she decided stretcher was her better choice.

Rambo's and Wyatt's aside, it is real important now to remember and continuosly reiterate that the 2nd Amendment is not about hunting bunnies, or, in our cases, steel critters. It is about maintaining the ability to resist tyranny from within or without and The Federalist Papers, written at the time to convince all the states to ratify, so stated. They went on to describe the type of arms... those of a military nature and suitable for use in a militia... Today those rifles would be mostly black so let us not be so quick to vilify that genre of arms and, instead, continue what we do best. Vilify each other. Owning an AR15 is sorta like owning a Slim Whitman album.... nothing to be proud of or brag about but everyone ought to own at least one.

Or have them sit in on a support group for family members of returned veterans. War is the gift that keeps on giving.Jim Beckley wrote:More on the wannabe's, Rambo's and as we call them back yard commando's. I would charter a bus with three stops. 1st stop, Cave Creek Rd. very well spoken to all who have chimed in on this. i have always felt there needs to be "unity in the community", but the issue for me seems to be that the very out spoken such as Ted Nugent are righous to the point of being almost offensive to those with differing views. if we wish to win the war we need to fight smart battles.
the "gun guys" dont need uncle Ted to rave like a looney ,we already get it, the moderates on the fence will not be swayed to our side by slobberjawed ranting. most likely they will turn away due to the extremeness of it all, that being said i agree with most of Ted and others views, just not the way it is convayed
just cause we have the right to say some thing doesnt mean we should.
wannabe rambo types may not be ruining out sports(they might be) but they are making it hard to put us in a good light.
i do not mean to point fingers at Ted he is a good guy a fine Guitar player and has done a lot for alot of people. Free For All is one of my favorite classic rock albums
please be heard
please speak as if you represent us all.......you do.
