The little rifle is a Chipmunk...It was her first rifle...and the little thing shoots surprisingly well for no better than it's put together..I've been taking Mallory to the range with me since she was around 18 months...she'd sit on the bench with her ear protection on while I shot whatever it was that prompted the trip to the range. One the occasion of her fifth birthday she wanted her own rifle....So, off we went to the local rifle retailer and I let her pick out the one she wanted. She's 10 now and is just now growing into the stock and able to shoot offhand....Took her to Ridgway to the Nationals this past year to watch and she is hooked....plans are to put a decent barreled acton into a stock that fits her and haul her around the country with us this year and let her shoot with us....She's proved to be safe with a firearm and to be very coachable...always room for one more on Team Kitty...

Scary, isn't it? Can you imagine her in a few years, already a seasoned competitor at Nationals? Raised and coached by Grandpa Kitty?

Yes, I can imagine exactly what it might be like. See many national and international trophies for the name of such an example that has made many, including me, wish they could "shoot like a girl."

Got a couple questions on the Chipmunk-
Scope base is that made for the gun, or a custom job?What is the scope? Do you know the overall weight of the gun? I have 2 grand kids getting twords shooting age, and like your set up.

The scope base is a Chimpmunk item, but took a little "fiddling" to make it work. Weight with scope is around 4lbs....The little guns are a hoot to shoot for kids and because they are a single shot and you have to "cock" the "hammer" for each shot are very good for teaching safety. Word of caution, build quality is not the best....the little gun will shoot minute of chicken at 40 meters, though, and is a death dealer to the tree rat population.

Why don't you tinker us a new all machined, precise, round action with with a Remington style trigger mount that will take Anschutz magazines, has a dovetail scope mount and will take a threaded barrel. If I had a lathe that's what I'd be doing.
