aiming points?

I'm new, and I'm old!

I was a Triple A shooter in smallbore, but I've been gone two years, one for a shoulder rebuild and one for a brain spasm (thought I wanted to quit and sell my rifles..... don't mind quitting, but I can't bring myself to sell my rifles!).

As I painfully work my way back, I have a question: I like shooting at the feet of the chickens....for some reason..... Are there any others out there who use a different aimpoint on the critters than center mass? It seems to me it might be easier if you had a constant, more available aimpoint..... I know one spectacularly good shooter out here in the Pacific Northwest likes to lay the horizontal reticle on the back of the Rams. Anyone got a comment?

When shooting at rams and pigs I aim for the hole between their legs.
That way I am sure not to get it in there, because i don't normally hit what I aim for.

I have a hard time with the center of mass thing. Instead I target a specific spot on an animal, such as the top of the leg on chickens and adjust scope accordingly. or I'll pick the one aspect of an animal,( height or width) and consentrate more on that. Such as elevation on the rams where I'll set my scope so my aiming point is the top of the back to cover the more critical elevation and where windage is more forgiving.

However don't forget when picking parts for targets, the animals may not face the same direction at another match.

Sight in dead on, pick out a paint chip or spot on the animal, put the dot on that spot and squeeze the trigger and watch the animal fall through the scope........Works in theory, anyway.

The problem I've found with picking a paint chip is that they are not always in the right spot, or there's a huge one off near the edge of the target that sucks me in like it has gravitational pull.

At the risk of hearing from Kitty, I also have a Chicken foot fetish. On Pigs, center mass works, and on Rams laying the cross hairs on top of the back is useful. Turkeys are just aimless - I can't figure out a good aim point on them.

PPKNY also has a Chicken and Pig foot fetish.... he also does real well at 'skipping' them in thus his nick name of 'Skip shot'

In Sporterifle (50' indoor on 6 bull paper targets) which we shoot from now till May he also has a nick name 'Crossfire Pete' so I gues we're not really sure where he's aiming... lol
