A New Obsession
Awhile back while shooting the air rifle I took the chicken swinger 1/10th scale and placed it at the ram distance 45 yds. Was very difficult to keep the dot on the target. The more I did it, the more obsessed I became to keep the dot on the target. Now I am doing it with the smallbore 1/5th target. After 20 min. of doing this I am mentally and physically whipped. But will go back and do it again the next training session.
Just thought I would share.

The drill is to get the dot on the chicken and get it to stay there as you break the shot. I use it for both dry and live fire, it exposes any minor movement you make because the white around the dot on my scope disappears if you just barely move, so I guess I use it to reduce wobble zone and force concentration. And yes it makes me focus on the center of the animal no matter which it is.ajj wrote:Please share the specific drill with us. Are you trying to break the shot? Or are you just working on reducing the wobble zone?
Does it help you find a good spot on the pig, say, so that you're not shooting at the "whole animal?"

James,
If you have your hold down to the size of a chicken at 100m I expect to see nothing but 40's this year. My hold is about chicken size at 100m but I am talk big bore chicken. I have always said, If someone could see my hold thru the scope they would be amazed that I ever made master in smallbore hunter.
Later, Paul

You bring up a REAL good point. BUT> It's not strictly about your hold / wobble. I think it's allot to do with making SMART decisions with the wobble/conditions you are given for THAT shot.
Example - We went to LA HP match this year and Carrol Barber was present one evening. While showing off my (UNLOADED< CYLINDER OUT) new laser grips on my revolver, we all played a little game... We held the "dot" on a spot 70-80 yards away. Carrol watched me as I held near DEAD still multiple times, for a number of seconds (read patting self on back here). Carrol looked at me and asked me "How do you ever miss a target, you have NO excuse".
My point? Many things must transpire for one's hold to translate into one of our beloved targets to fall upon the small explosion in our chamber!
One of them is a proper read on the target / settings. If you are holding dead center but your POI for that aim is high right, you will be lucky to hit with a center break.
What about reading the conditions / wind / change in elevation, etc.
Other is recoil
