Testing ongoing, but a start to finding answers to the O Ring question I have wondered about.

Maybe I'm missing something here but where is the controlled test of shooting the same number of shoots from the gun without any o rings. Do you think the gun shoots perfect, You really should shoot 40 shots without the o rongs and see what you get.

I conducted those tests a few months ago, but replaced my computer since then...apparently lost the images. Test is ongoing as mentioned.......and, shooting perfectly is unavailable for anyone.

There was a group of shooters in Northwest Arkansas a few years back (mays still be shooting I don't know) that shot 3/8 scale resettable silhouettes at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yerds. They didn't own a range, but on match days they would drag the targets out in trailers and set them up in a cow pasture. We used to go up and shoot with them once or twice a year when they had money matches or gave away pretty good prizes. Anyway we we up one year and everyone had O rings on their barrels. They varied in number and spacing from gun to gun....seems as though their "top gun" had put some on his gun...shooter see, shooter do...Don't think any of us tried it...We went back the following year and all the O rings had disappeared from the guns...you guessed it..."top gun" decided they didn't work and took his off.

Kitty, Black O-rings certainly are not blingy enough for you. Now if they had them in fancy colors I would see them in yhour future ;)

True..like anything, it works for some guns and some not so much. I am not prepared to think because it did not work well on one rifle, my rifle will not like them. I think your point about popularity verses performance is the actual issue. I wonder if the "top gun" tested the O rings himself. If he did, and they worked, why stop?

More testing in warmer weather.

I thnk you mentioned you are testing at 25 /50 yds. My silhouette guns will just about put them in the same hole at that distance. The real test starts at 77m and 100m.

I think any SB ammo test at ranges less than 100m is a waste of time for silhouette shooters. Ammo seems to go bad somewhere after 70m.

I agree that accuracy is determined by the 100y groups. I sight in at 50 yards adj the scope and shoot 100y for groups.
Most any 22 target ammo will shoot little groups at 50y. If you do your part.

Ret....It is always intresting to see test like these done. Good luck with them. If nothing else you should become a better bench shooter. I do agree with others that 100m if not 100yrds. is the best way to go. I can get 10 shot well under one half inch groups with half a dozen different brands with 4 different anshutz. The majority of eley makes, sk standare plus,wolf, cci standard vol. and federal auto match just to name a few. ( This of course is at 50 meters) At 100 meters it is a whole different story. Depending on which rifle I'm using and which brand at 100m it goes from 3/4 inch groups to 1.5. I have 2 identical 1700's that one will shoot sk or eley practice in 3/4" but the others between 1.25 and1.50. The other will shoot cci standard or federal auto match into under and inch but stays between 1" and 1.5 with the sk, and eley practice. Good luck and please keep the pic coming.

Which ammo works best for me is the one that I can afford to shoot and gets me the best accuracy. Right now I'm shooting Sk Jag Standard Plus at $415.00 a case. If it goes up past $550.00 a case I'll have to start looking again.
I had accuracy tested at the Nationals last year with my NULA using SK with a .75/1.00 group at 100M. Good enough for me and I would even settle for a max of 1.25 if I had to.

ppkny, what is the NULA and what does it look like? Pix? Sounds like its a good shooter.

NULA is a New Ultra Light Arms rifle custom made by Malcom Forbes in West Virginia. It has a Douglas barrel and a Malcom's own action. Without the scope the gun weighs 6.5 lbs.

just found web sight for it thanks anyway. Do you have any hunting rifles with them? nice pix. Looks like you should be shooting above 35/40!!or does the gun work better than the shooter?lol
