40X Single Shot

Post by Merlin »

A friend is offering me a 40X Heavy barrel single shot target rifle that came from the CMP. He is asking $800.00. The gun is in good overall shape cosmetically - no sights. Is this a good deal?

Thanks,
Merlin

The CMP recently sold out (very quickly!!) of their supply of 40-X rifles by pricing them at 400-475 dollars (depending on which model purchased). That said, until this recent quantity was put up for sale, the going price for as-issued rifles seems to be in the 800-1000 dollar range. Now that the supply of the CMP guns has dried up, I expect to see many of them for sale at pre-release prices.
Back to your question....if I wanted a 40-X, especially to build on, that would definitely be at the top end of the price spectrum. If you're building a bench gun, their are full blown custom actions out there for near the same amount.

Thanks, Boyd. Hit the nail on the head for me as I am not a collector and I would build on the action for "something" else as a final end result for the gun. It needs a new home - just not with me. 8)
